Fowler linked that request to Robotnik’s brief dance in the first film, and the idea grew into a laser-room routine featuring both Ivo and Gerald Robotnik. “Insisted” goes further than Fowler’s account: his reported wording was, “I want to dance again.”
How the two-Robotnik dance began
In an interview published by CinemaBlend on December 23, 2024, Fowler recalled that Carrey raised the idea early in discussions of the third film. Fowler connected it to the first movie’s short mobile-lab dance and said the new scene developed into a routine for Ivo and his grandfather Gerald, both played by Carrey.
The finished gag puts the pair in special suits, moving through a room filled with lasers. It takes a brief character moment from the first film and expands it into a coordinated sequence built around the two Robotniks.
How the routine was made
“Galvanize” set the routine’s rhythm
Cinematographer Brandon Trost told the American Society of Cinematographers that choreographers Alison Faulk and Luke Broadlick worked with dancers Anthony and Charles Bartley to build the routine around “Galvanize” by the Chemical Brothers—the song Carrey wanted for the dance.

Rehearsal helped plan the shots
Trost described the director and dancers rehearsing and filming a block-out of the choreography. That footage served as a “living storyboard,” helping the production plan how to shoot the sequence before filming the final version.
Carrey, dancers and visual effects shared the work
The dance was not simply Carrey performing every move on camera. Trost said Carrey did a lot of the dancing at the beginning and usually appears in close-ups, while dancers handled much of the movement once the routine got going. Split-screen and face replacement helped create the effect of both Robotniks performing together.
