Did Elijha Watkins Bring Augmented Reality to Ripley’s? What the Evidence Shows

Elijha Watkins’ AR apps and patent application are documented, but the claim that she revolutionized augmented reality at a Ripley’s museum is not verified. Here is what the records show—and what is missing.

There is no verified evidence that Elijha Ammon Bronaugh Watkins created or deployed an augmented-reality installation at a Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum. Watkins is identified as the developer of several AR apps and as the inventor named on a published U.S. patent application. Ripley’s independently operates AR-related attractions, but the available official material does not connect Watkins to those venues. The accurate story is therefore about documented AR projects, a proposed object-linked system, and an unconfirmed museum collaboration—not a proven “revolution” at Ripley’s.

What is confirmed about Watkins?

Public app-store and patent records support a limited set of specific claims. Google Play identifies Watkins as the developer of ELIJHA AR AUTOGRAPH, Elijha Revolution AR, and Elijha Augmented Reality ABC. A separate record published on May 8, 2025, lists Watkins as the inventor on U.S. patent application US 2025/0148721 A1.

Project What the source says What it does not establish
ELIJHA AR AUTOGRAPH The Google Play listing describes an AR app in which users scan a sign. The indexed result showed an update date of February 9, 2026. It does not independently test the experience, identify a museum customer, or show audience size. Google Play listing
Elijha Revolution AR The listing calls it an augmented-reality application for entertainment. The indexed result showed 10+ downloads and an update date of November 7, 2025. Download figures are rounded and volatile; they are not a reliable measure of sustained adoption or quality. Google Play listing
Elijha Augmented Reality ABC The app is presented as a children’s-book-related AR learning product. Marketing language is not evidence of learning gains, compatibility, or current availability. Google Play listing
US 2025/0148721 A1 The published application describes AR handwritten autographs, instant AR photos, and AR pet tags, with Watkins named as inventor. Publication of an application is not a granted patent, proof that every claim will be allowed, or proof of commercial deployment. Published patent record

“Named inventor” is the precise legal description supported here. It should not automatically be expanded to “patent-protected,” “commercially proven,” or “widely adopted.” Definitive legal-status reporting would require checking the official U.S. Patent and Trademark Office record.

What the AR autograph concept proposes

The documented concept links a physical object—such as a handwritten autograph, photograph, book, or pet tag—to digital media viewed through an AR-capable device. A visitor might scan the object and receive an overlaid image, video, animation, audio element, or other digital content. Those are categories described or contemplated by the patent application, not a demonstration that each feature is operating in a public exhibit.

Implementation details still need documentation

The available records do not specify whether recognition uses a printed marker, QR code, NFC, image recognition, or another method. They also do not establish the supported operating systems, internet requirements, cloud architecture, update process, data retention, account requirements, or treatment of camera footage and other personal information. Those details matter before a museum can assess reliability, privacy, accessibility, or maintenance.

What Ripley’s actually promotes

Ripley’s has its own AR and immersive offerings. The official Ripley’s Venture Realm site presents an immersive augmented-reality experience involving fantasy, history, and imagination. Ripley’s official locations page also refers to a “cutting-edge augmented reality holographic theater experience” associated with Verse Immersive.

These references should not be merged into one product or attributed to Watkins. Venture Realm, Verse Immersive attractions, Ripley’s Super Fun Park, and individual Believe It or Not! museums may represent different venues, operators, or partnerships. A venue name, city, operating period, ticket conditions, hardware setup, and visitor procedure must come from the specific attraction’s own official page.

Is there evidence of a Watkins–Ripley’s collaboration?

Not in the sources available for this article. No verified Ripley Entertainment announcement, named museum exhibit credit, launch record, licensing notice, installation photograph authenticated by a venue, or statement from both parties establishes that Watkins’ work appeared at a Ripley’s museum.

Two promotional articles describe Watkins as an AR inventor and discuss the handwritten-autograph idea: King Newswire and Digital Journal. They are press-release-style accounts, not independent confirmation of a Ripley’s partnership.

What would confirm the claim?

  • An official Ripley Entertainment or museum-location announcement naming Watkins.
  • A dated exhibit or installation record identifying the venue and technology partner.
  • Authenticated photographs or video showing the work in that venue.
  • A licensing, vendor, or contract announcement, or statements from both Watkins and Ripley’s.
  • Visitor documentation that can be independently verified.

What would “revolutionizes augmented reality” require?

“Revolutionizes” is an evaluation, not a technical fact. A responsible claim would need evidence such as:

  • a demonstrably novel technical method;
  • a granted patent with relevant claims;
  • independent demonstrations or testing;
  • sustained public deployment and measurable visitor adoption;
  • licensing or commercial partnerships;
  • peer-reviewed evaluation; or
  • documented accessibility, educational, or operational improvements over existing museum AR.

Without that evidence, more accurate wording is that Watkins “develops AR-based products,” “proposes a multimedia autograph system,” or “is named inventor on a published patent application.”

How museums would need to evaluate an object-linked AR system

Visitor experience

  • Whether scanning works under gallery lighting, glare, crowding, and partial obstruction.
  • Device compatibility, battery consumption, connection requirements, and clear recovery steps when tracking fails.
  • Options for visitors who cannot or do not want to use a smartphone, including captions, audio description, and multilingual interpretation.

Operations and stewardship

  • Who updates digital content and moderates submissions.
  • How staff handle broken markers, outdated links, software changes, and hardware support.
  • Whether cameras, accounts, location data, biometrics, or uploaded media are collected, retained, or shared.
  • How the digital layer supports the physical artifact instead of distracting from it.

Evidence of value

Museums should measure dwell time, repeat use, comprehension, accessibility outcomes, and visitor satisfaction rather than relying on promotional adjectives. An app-store listing alone cannot supply those measurements.

Bottom line on the Ripley’s headline

Watkins’ AR work is documented through app listings and a published patent application describing autograph, photo, and pet-tag concepts. Ripley’s separately documents AR attractions, including Venture Realm and a Verse Immersive holographic-theater reference. The evidence does not establish that Watkins created, supplied, or exhibited technology at a Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum, so the claim that she “revolutionized” AR there remains unsubstantiated.
