What did Crunchyroll say about the subtitle problems?
In a statement provided to Anime News Network and reproduced by AnimeMojo on October 10, 2025, Crunchyroll attributed reported access delays and subtitle issues on certain series to internal system problems. The company said those problems had been resolved. It did not identify OOONA or directly address whether Crunchyroll had any separate relationship with the platform.
“Over the past few days, some users experienced delays in accessing the content they wanted and subtitle issues across certain series. These were caused by internal system problems — not by any change in how we create subtitles, use of new vendors or AI. Those internal issues have now been fully resolved.

AnimeMojo’s October 10 report reproduces the statement and says it was given to Anime News Network. It should not be read as a press release posted directly on Crunchyroll’s website. The denial is specific: it says the reported issues were not caused by changes to subtitle creation, new vendors, or AI. It is not a categorical denial of every possible contract, trial, or other relationship with OOONA.

Was there a Crunchyroll–OOONA partnership?
It was alleged, not confirmed in the reporting reviewed here. Fall 2025 coverage and online discussion described a possible move from Aegisub to OOONA, a localization platform identified in those reports as Israeli. But the available sources do not independently establish that Crunchyroll made that transition or entered a formal partnership.
A secondary synthesis of reporting by CBR and Anime News Network says Crunchyroll did not confirm or deny a specific OOONA relationship when asked. The company’s October statement likewise names no vendor. Its denial that new vendors caused the reported subtitle problems should not be stretched into proof that no vendor relationship existed. Factually.co’s summary describes the reporting, but it is secondary coverage rather than a direct company confirmation.

Some users criticized the alleged vendor’s Israeli origin and called for subscription cancellations. Those reactions document audience response to the allegation; they do not establish a contract, confirm the vendor’s role, or demonstrate a corporate political position.

Crunchyroll had faced a separate subtitle controversy months earlier. On July 3, 2025, Anime Corner reported that a source at Crunchyroll said AI-generated subtitles for Necronomico and the Cosmic Horror Show had been supplied by a third-party vendor contrary to that vendor’s agreement with Crunchyroll, and that an investigation had begun. Anime Corner pointed to errors in the German subtitle for episode one, including the phrase “ChatGPT said:” appearing as dialogue. The report did not connect that vendor to OOONA.

That earlier report and the later subtitle complaints are distinct events. The July account concerned subtitles reportedly generated with AI in violation of a vendor agreement; the October statement attributed a later set of access delays and subtitle issues to internal system problems and said they were not caused by AI or new vendors. Neither account, on its own, establishes a Crunchyroll–OOONA partnership. Anime Corner’s July 3 report attributes the account to a Crunchyroll source.
