Who did CBS replace on Matlock? The reported change concerns Billy Martinez, an associate at the fictional Jacobson Moore law firm—not Kathy Bates’s title character, Madeline “Matty” Matlock. TVLine reported that Billy left the firm in the March 5, 2026 episode and that Hunter arrived as a new floater helping Matty and Olympia.

Was Matty Matlock replaced?

No. CBS’s official series description identifies Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, the show’s lead. It describes her as a lawyer working at a prestigious firm while concealing a hidden agenda. Nothing in the reported episode development says CBS replaced Matty or recast her role. CBS’s series page also names Olympia, Julian, and Sarah in its description.

What happened to Billy Martinez?

According to TVLine’s March 6, 2026 recap, the March 5 episode revealed that Billy had accepted a severance package and would not return to Jacobson Moore. That is an in-story departure from the firm, as reported by TVLine—not an announcement that the actor or character was being recast. Read TVLine’s episode recap.

Who is Hunter on Matlock?

TVLine identifies Hunter, played by Henry Haber, as a new floater assisting Matty and Olympia. In practical terms, Hunter joins the team in a work role after Billy’s exit. The report does not establish that Hunter has been designated a permanent main-cast replacement for Billy.

The episode’s “replacement” wording also appears in a character’s dialogue: TVLine reports that Sarah tells Julian, “It’s just getting replaced so quickly,” while reacting to Matty and Olympia working with Hunter. That is Sarah’s in-story observation, not an official CBS statement about casting.

What does “replacement” mean in this case?

  • Billy’s story exit: TVLine reports that Billy accepted a severance package and would not return to the firm.
  • A new colleague: Hunter arrives as a floater helping Matty and Olympia.
  • A permanent cast replacement: The cited episode reporting and official CBS and CBS Studios pages do not establish that Hunter was made a permanent main-cast replacement or that Billy was recast.

Those are different claims. The first two describe the reported plot development; the third is not confirmed by the available official cast material or TVLine’s recap. Paramount Press Express identifies Matlock as a CBS Studios series and lists Kathy Bates, Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter, Leah Lewis, Sam Anderson, and Aaron Harris in its cast material. See the CBS Studios press page.
