ABC confirmed Avery Pohl’s exit from General Hospital as Esme Prince, and her final episode aired January 31, 2024. Esme and Spencer were presumed dead after the Paris water incident—but that was not confirmation that Esme had died. Pohl later appeared briefly as Esme in a nightmare sequence that aired December 5, 2025; that guest appearance did not establish a return to the regular cast.
When was Avery Pohl’s last episode of General Hospital?
Soap Opera Digest reported that an ABC spokesperson confirmed Pohl’s departure from the soap opera. Her final episode as Esme Prince aired January 31, 2024. Soap Opera Digest’s exit report covered the episode and the characters’ fate.
Was Esme confirmed dead?
No. In the January 31 episode, Esme and Spencer were presumed dead after the Paris water incident. The report describes a probable death, not a conclusively established death. Pohl later joked that she did not consider Esme definitively dead: “If there’s not a body, you’re not dead, is my rule of thumb.” That was Pohl’s view, not confirmation from ABC that the character would return. Soap Opera Digest’s December 5, 2025 interview includes her comments.
Did Avery Pohl return to General Hospital?
Pohl made a brief appearance as Esme in a nightmare sequence that aired December 5, 2025, according to Soap Opera Digest. A scene in a nightmare is a guest appearance; it is not evidence that Pohl rejoined the regular cast. The sources establish that brief appearance but do not establish her regular-cast status after it. Read the December 2025 interview.
