Yes—in July 2022, Australian traffic controller Anjelica Langton said passing drivers and strangers hit on her every day. That was her account in interview coverage, not a tally independently verified by a third party. The tabloid phrase “hottest lollipop lady” was a headline hook, not an official title or a verifiable ranking.

What did Anjelica Langton say?

PerthNow reported on 7 July 2022 that Langton described drivers calling out to her, whistling and honking their horns while she worked. The outlet reproduced her words from an interview with Daily Mail Australia: “I get hit on every day, people call out all types of things from their cars, they’re always whistling and honking their horns. The way I respond is legit just wave and laugh.”

She distinguished that attention from her workplace relationships, telling PerthNow: “Everyone who I work with is really lovely and respectful – it’s only drivers and strangers passing by.” The report establishes what Langton said; it does not quantify incidents or independently confirm how often they occurred. Who is Anjelica Langton, and where was she working?

Langton was identified in the July 2022 coverage as a traffic controller working around Mullumbimby, in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. PerthNow said she had worked on roads there for two years. A separate 7NEWS/7Life profile, published on 16 July 2022, described her as 24 at the time and reported that her father had worked as a traffic controller for 20 years.

What does a traffic controller do beyond holding a sign?

Langton described work around heavy traffic and construction zones, where road conditions can change and workers and pedestrians need to be considered. Controllers use signs and a stop/slow baton to guide drivers through or around work areas. She also said some drivers ignored signs, ran the baton or verbally abused workers.

“People think it’s just turning a sign but it’s not that at all,” she said in the 7NEWS/7Life interview. Her account highlights the difference between the simplified image of the job and the attention it demands around moving vehicles and road work. It is her description of the occupation, not a complete guide to traffic-control duties or current work requirements.

Why did Langton choose the work?

According to 7NEWS/7Life, Langton’s father encouraged her to take a traffic-control course. She enjoyed being outdoors and hoped the experience could help her move toward mining work. The profile said courses were typically two days at the time; that 2022 description should not be treated as current advice about NSW qualifications or training.

Langton also encouraged more women to consider the occupation: “I definitely believe that more women should look into getting into this type of work,” she said. That was her personal view, not evidence about gender representation or the experiences of women across the industry.

What the 2022 reports do—and do not—establish

  • They establish: Langton’s own account of frequent attention from passing drivers and strangers, alongside her account that coworkers were respectful.
  • They do not establish: an independently counted number of incidents, whether she still works in traffic control, her present location, or current training and equipment rules.
  • They are not industry-wide evidence: the profiles do not measure harassment rates or the proportion of women working in traffic control.
