Guinness World Records gives Van Dyke’s age when he collected the award as 98 years and 177 days. His win was a Daytime Emmy acting award, distinct from his earlier Primetime Emmy wins.
What Van Dyke said onstage
In remarks reported by the Associated Press on June 8, 2024, Van Dyke said: “I don’t believe this. I feel like a spy from nighttime television. I’m 98 years old. Can you believe it? This really tops off a lifetime of 80 years in the business. If I had known I would have lived this long I would’ve taken better care of myself.”

Who holds the age record now?
Van Dyke no longer holds the oldest-Daytime-Emmy-winner record. At the 2025 Daytime Emmys, Sir David Attenborough won Outstanding Daytime Personality – Non-Daily for Secret Lives of Orangutans. The Associated Press reported that Attenborough was 99, making him the new oldest winner.
| Recipient | Year and age | Category | Program |

| Sir David Attenborough | 2025; age 99, according to the Associated Press | Outstanding Daytime Personality – Non-Daily | Secret Lives of Orangutans |
The comparison is about the broad age record, not a head-to-head category: the two recipients won in different categories.

Why the distinction matters
The Daytime Emmy Awards recognize achievement in daytime television programming, a tradition NATAS dates to 1974. Van Dyke’s 2024 win made history at the time; Attenborough’s 2025 win later changed who held the age record.
