The joke escalates when he opens a window shade and finds Minions cheering for Gru outside. “Guys, I’m not your boss,” he tells them.
What happens in the Nikola Jokić promo?
Jokić tells the therapist that people keep saying he looks like Gru. Asked why the comparison bothers him, he says it does not—then explains, “Because they won’t leave me alone.” He raises the shade to reveal Minions cheering for Gru, prompting his exasperated clarification: “Guys, I’m not your boss.” The scene and dialogue are described in the Associated Press report carried by NBA.com. The lines are spoken by Jokić’s character in the ad, not presented as comments about his real life.
Why was Jokić dressed like Gru?
At Denver’s April 20, 2024 playoff opener, Jokić arrived in a Gru-like outfit: a similar suit and a wrap-around striped scarf. The AP report says the look appeared to tease the promotion, whose gag has Minions mistaking Jokić for their boss. The report does not confirm that the outfit was planned as a coordinated campaign teaser.
How does the promo connect to Despicable Me 4?
The spot is a marketing tie-in for Illumination’s 2024 film, the next chapter in the Despicable Me series after a seven-year gap between films. In the movie, Gru and Lucy welcome Gru Jr., while antagonist Maxime Le Mal and his partner Valentina put the family on the run. Illumination’s official film page lists Chris Renaud as director, Patrick Delage as co-director, and Mike White and Ken Daurio as screenwriters.
