Der Tiger, listed in English as The Tank, is a 2026 German WWII film announced for Prime Video. It follows a five-person German Tiger tank crew on a secret mission behind enemy lines on the Eastern Front in autumn 1943. Despite the search phrase “The Tank Prime Video WWII movie,” this is not the separate 2023 horror film also called The Tank.
What is Der Tiger (The Tank) about?
Amazon’s official synopsis describes a five-person German Tiger tank crew sent on a secret mission behind enemy lines on the Eastern Front in autumn 1943. The premise centers on the crew’s experience inside the tank as fear, guilt, helplessness and drug use shape their journey and their growing psychological estrangement.
Amazon characterizes the film as an anti-war psychological drama and says it is “kein klassischer Kriegsfilm”—“not a conventional war film.” That framing suggests a focus on pressure and the crew’s inner lives rather than a promise of uninterrupted battle spectacle. The mission is part of the film’s official synopsis; that description does not independently establish that it depicts a documented historical operation. Amazon Germany’s film announcement

Is this the same movie as the 2023 The Tank?
No. The intended title here is the German WWII film Der Tiger, which Amazon lists in English as The Tank. Search results may also show a separate 2023 horror movie titled The Tank; use Der Tiger or the 2026 release year to distinguish the WWII film when searching. Prime Video listing
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should viewers expect from its WWII setting?
The official premise places the story on the Eastern Front in autumn 1943 and follows a German tank crew rather than presenting the war through a broad battlefield overview. Its psychological and anti-war positioning is the clearest guide to tone. The available official synopsis does not establish historical accuracy for the mission, so it is best approached as a dramatic film rather than treated as a verified account of a specific operation.
