Tony Scott’s Man on Fire (2004), starring Denzel Washington, reached sixth place on Netflix’s U.S. weekly Top 10 for Dec. 29, 2025–Jan. 4, 2026. That is a notable chart appearance, not evidence that the film is currently popular, ranks among Netflix’s all-time most-watched movies, or was popular worldwide. The roughly $130.3 million figure refers to reported worldwide box-office gross—not the film’s budget.

What does the Netflix ranking actually show?
ComicBook.com reported that Man on Fire placed sixth on Netflix’s domestic Top 10 for the week of Dec. 29, 2025–Jan. 4, 2026. The claim is specific to the U.S. weekly chart and that one-week period. The report does not give viewing hours or a Netflix lifetime ranking, so the placement cannot establish how many people watched or how the film compares with Netflix’s most popular films of all time.

A third-party catalog, New On Netflix USA, lists the film’s U.S. Netflix availability as Jan. 1 through Mar. 31, 2026. That historical listing does not establish current availability in the United States or availability in other countries. 20th Century Studios’ page promotes streaming on Hulu and a purchase option, but streaming rights and catalog listings can change. Check the service’s current listing in your region before planning a watch.
Why do critics and audiences disagree?
The divide is reflected in scores reported by two sources, though both ratings can change and their figures should be read with their dates and sources attached.
Rank #2
| Source and date | Critics | Audience | Context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rotten Tomatoes, page accessed Oct. 8, 2026 | 39% from 166 reviews; average 5.30/10 | Not stated on the cited page information | Its critics consensus says the film’s strong action and cast are undermined by a relentlessly grim story. |
| Tom’s Guide, Aug. 8, 2026 | 39% | 89% | An opinion article uses the contrast to describe a warmer audience response. |
The contrast supports calling the film divisive, not claiming that all critics rejected it or all viewers loved it. Its relentless bleakness is a likely fault line: the same intensity that makes the story punishing for some viewers can be part of its appeal for others. The scores show a difference in reported reception; they do not, by themselves, explain every viewer’s reaction.
