Denise Richards announced her OnlyFans account on June 23, 2022, after publicly defending her daughter Sami Sheen’s decision to join the platform. Richards said she could not judge her daughter’s choices and later described her own account as a way to communicate with fans and share behind-the-scenes material.
Why Denise Richards defended Sami Sheen
Sami Sheen was 18 when she announced her OnlyFans account in June 2022. After her daughter received criticism, Richards responded on Instagram. As quoted by Fox News, Richards wrote: “Lots of negative comments on my social this past week. I have to say, I wish I had the confidence my 18 yr old daughter has.” She added: “And I also can’t be judgmental of her choices.”
Richards also questioned whether taking control of one’s image and earning money from it was necessarily bad, joking about being paid for a bikini image. Her public comments focused on Sami’s confidence and her reluctance to judge her daughter; they did not amount to a claim that every criticism of the platform was unfounded.
When Richards announced her own account
On June 23, 2022, Richards announced on Instagram that she had launched an OnlyFans account, according to Fox News. The announcement came after her defense of Sami, but the timing alone does not establish that Richards joined solely to draw attention to her daughter or to answer critics.

How Richards explained her reason for joining
In a July 2022 interview reported by The Independent, Richards described OnlyFans as a way for creators to communicate with fans and share behind-the-scenes material, including fashion and beauty content. She said: “I think that the platform really allows creators to be able to communicate with fans in a more dynamic way and to be our true, authentic self.” Richards also said Sami had been incredibly supportive of her joining.
How Charlie Sheen responded
Fox News reported that Sami’s father, Charlie Sheen, initially said he did not condone her joining OnlyFans, while urging her to keep it classy and creative and to protect her integrity. He later acknowledged Richards’s points and said he would support a united parental front. In a statement to Fox News Digital, he said: “Denise has illuminated a variety of salient points, that in my haste, i overlooked and dismissed.” These were remarks reported in 2022, not evidence of the family’s current views.
