Its worldwide opening reached $132.1 million across North America and 49 international markets, according to Comscore figures reported by The Associated Press. Those are opening-weekend figures, not the film’s final box-office total.
What made the debut record-breaking?
At the time of its release, the film set the biggest North American opening ever reported for an anime movie. Its estimated $70 million domestic weekend surpassed the $31 million opening for Pokémon: The First Movie in 1999. AP also described the $132.1 million worldwide opening as the biggest anime opening of all time at that point, citing Comscore.
The two figures describe different geographic totals, not competing estimates: $70 million is for North America, while $132.1 million covers North America plus 49 international markets. Both refer to the opening weekend reported in September 2025. They should not be read as lifetime grosses or as a current ranking of all-time box-office totals.
Comscore analyst Paul Dergarabedian told AP, “This performance by this particular film shows the unpredictability of the box office.” The Associated Press report provides the contemporary figures and record comparisons.

How the opening fits the film’s release and story
The U.S. and Canadian theatrical release date was September 12, 2025. International release dates were staggered by territory. The official franchise announcement described Infinity Castle as the first movie in a three-part theatrical trilogy adapting the anime’s final arc; AP characterized the films as leading to the saga’s climactic showdown.
Outside Japan and select Asian territories, Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment were named as worldwide distributors. The original announcement lists the release plan and territory qualifications. Official franchise release announcement

What later box-office figures do—and do not—show
A September 23, 2025 milestone reported by Crunchyroll put the film at ¥34.01 billion in Japan and $269 million across Crunchyroll/Sony markets. These were cumulative figures at that date, not final worldwide lifetime totals. They cannot be substituted for the opening-weekend numbers: the time periods and geographic measures differ.
The sources cited here do not establish the definitive final worldwide gross as of October 8, 2026. Accordingly, the record claim belongs to the September 2025 reporting period rather than an unsupported claim about the film’s current lifetime-gross rank. Crunchyroll’s dated box-office milestone
Where to watch the film

In North America, the listed purchase platforms are Apple TV, Prime Video, Google Play, YouTube, and Fandango. Availability depends on territory and platform; the announcement confirms digital options, not a Blu-ray or DVD release. Official viewing-availability announcement
