What was Del Villar convicted of?
A federal jury found Del Villar and Del Entertainment guilty on March 27, 2025, after a nine-day trial, according to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The verdict comprised 11 counts: one count of conspiracy to transact in property of specially designated narcotics traffickers and 10 counts of violating the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act.
The conviction and the later sentences are distinct milestones: the jury returned its verdict in March, and the judge imposed the penalties in August.
Why did the case involve the Kingpin Act?
The case focused on concert promoter Jesús Pérez Alvear, also known as “Chucho,” and his company, Gallistica Diamante, also known as Ticket Premier. The DOJ says the defendants did business with Pérez from April 2018 through March 2019, including arranging performances at concerts in which Pérez and Del Entertainment had financial interests.

The Treasury Department designated Pérez and Gallistica Diamante under the Kingpin Act on April 6, 2018. The DOJ said the designation followed the government’s conclusion that Pérez facilitated money laundering for the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) and Los Cuinis. That is the stated basis for the government’s designation; it should not be read as an independently adjudicated finding about every alleged criminal relationship.
An example cited by prosecutors
In its account of the case, the DOJ said FBI agents warned a musician about the designation and prohibited dealings on April 19, 2018. The musician performed at a Pérez-organized concert in Aguascalientes on April 28, and Del Villar’s credit card paid for the private jet. The example illustrates the government’s account of dealings after the designation; the jury’s verdict, rather than any single example, established the defendants’ criminal liability.

What does the Kingpin Act prohibit?
The Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act is a U.S. sanctions law targeting significant foreign narcotics traffickers and their organizations. The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) explains that covered property within U.S. jurisdiction, or controlled by U.S. persons, is blocked and that certain transactions involving designated parties are prohibited. In this case, the DOJ said the jury found that Del Villar and his company violated the law through transactions involving parties designated under it. The law’s reach is not limited to conduct that takes place physically in the United States; the relevant question includes whether property or a transaction falls within U.S. jurisdiction or involves a U.S. person.

What sentences did Del Villar and Del Entertainment receive?

The penalties are separate: Del Villar received an individual prison sentence and fine, while the company received probation and its own fine. Prosecutors had asked for six and a half years in prison, Rolling Stone reported at the time. The judge set a December 1, 2025 surrender date, according to that report; those details do not establish Del Villar’s present custody status.

The sentencing was announced in August 2025. The available reporting cited here does not establish whether Del Villar is currently in custody or the final disposition of any appeal as of October 8, 2026. The reported surrender date alone is not confirmation of his present status.
