His final broadcast was scheduled for Friday 15 August. Clairs said the early starts had become difficult after 12 consecutive years of breakfast radio, while adding that he loved broadcasting and felt he had nothing to prove.
What Clairs announced on 11 August 2025
96FM said Clairs would step away from breakfast after four and a half years co-hosting Clairsy & Lisa with Lisa Shaw. The station scheduled his last show for Friday 15 August 2025 and said Shaw would remain on breakfast, with her new co-host to be announced later. 96FM’s announcement also quoted Clairs reflecting on his long-held ambition to work at the station and his on-air partnership with Shaw.
Why was Clairsy leaving 96FM?
Clairs told PerthNow he had done breakfast radio for 12 years straight: seven and a half years at Mix 94.5, followed by four and a half at 96FM. He said the pre-dawn starts were becoming harder and that he felt he had nothing to prove. He also said he loved broadcasting. Those are the reasons he gave; the available reports do not establish another cause for his departure.
Who replaced Clairsy on 96FM breakfast?
On 15 August 2025, PerthNow reported that Russell Clarke would join Lisa Shaw as her new co-host, starting Monday 18 August. The change was a new pairing on 96FM breakfast, rather than an announcement that Shaw was leaving.

What happened to Clairsy after 96FM?
Clairs’ 2025 departure was from 96FM breakfast, not the end of his radio career. RadioInfo reported that after a six-month break he joined Perth station 6iX. His weekday midday program, Clairsy’s Classic Countdown, was scheduled to begin on 3 March 2026.
What 96FM said about the announcement
In its announcement, 96FM said the station had a 17.1% share and described that figure as its highest in more than 20 years. That is the station’s own characterization; the announcement does not identify the survey period or methodology. It also said Clairs had spent 43 years in radio and began at age 17 in Merredin; those biographical details are likewise attributed to the station.
