The D23 clip featuring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds was a humorous pitch to join Avengers: Doomsday—not an identified teaser for Avengers: Secret Wars. It also does not confirm that either actor has been cast.
What happened at D23
Marvel Studios screened a recorded video during its D23 presentation in Anaheim on August 14, 2026. In the clip, Hugh Jackman addressed Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and asked whether he needed help rounding out the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. Jackman also suggested he could persuade Ryan Reynolds to join. D23’s video post describes the two actors as asking to join Avengers: Doomsday, making the clip a promotional gag rather than a casting announcement. D23’s video post

ComingSoon reproduced Jackman’s line from the recorded message: “I just wanted to check in totally unprompted, just wondering if you might need some help rounding out the cast?” ComingSoon’s report
Are Deadpool and Wolverine in Avengers: Doomsday?
The clip does not establish that Jackman or Reynolds is officially in the film. It presents their interest as a joke directed at Feige, not as confirmation from Marvel. Reynolds later addressed the tease at a red-carpet appearance for Mayday, but the accessible report characterizes his response as cryptic and does not provide a complete transcript. There is no basis here for turning that response into a casting confirmation or a direct quote.

- Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake yet. His days as Deadpool behind him, a listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. But when his homeworld is threatened, he reluctantly suits up as he tries to convince Wolverine? oh hell, just watch. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
Was the D23 clip a Secret Wars teaser?
No. The D23 clip is described as an appeal to join Avengers: Doomsday. A separate, earlier Deadpool & Wolverine trailer was associated with the inclusion of Secret Wars (2015) #5; that comic reference is a different piece of context, not evidence that the D23 video teased Secret Wars. In 2024, The Walt Disney Company announced that Anthony and Joe Russo would direct Avengers: Doomsday in May 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars in May 2027. Those are historical announced dates, not a verified current schedule. D23’s August 2026 video post says Doomsday would be in theaters December 18, but the available information here does not establish an updated Secret Wars date.
