After he opposed the judgment, the sentence ceased to apply while the case proceeded again. At the latest reported hearing, in September 2026, prosecutors were still seeking six months on the original case; a verdict was expected in November.
What was the six-month sentence for?
The December 2025 judgment concerned two incidents, on 5 and 21 April 2024, when Schoenaerts was stopped in Pelt while riding a motorcycle without a valid licence, according to Belga’s reporting. The court ruled in his absence and imposed six months in prison, a €4,000 fine and a one-year driving ban. An in-absentia ruling is one made when the person concerned is not present in court. Belga’s report in Soirmag gives the terms of the ruling.

The Independent reported that Schoenaerts’s licence had been revoked after an alleged drug-driving incident in 2021. Belga’s 2026 account says a driving prohibition was imposed on 29 September 2021 and that he was required to pass tests before resuming driving. These details are based on news reports, not an official judgment located in the reporting available here. The Independent’s December 2025 coverage describes the earlier incident.
What changed after he opposed the ruling?
Schoenaerts filed opposition to the in-absentia judgment. In January 2026, RTL/ANP reported that the six-month sentence ceased to apply after he did so and that proceedings continued again. The court gave him until 14 September to complete the required driving tests. RTL/ANP’s January report covered that development.

That procedural change matters: the December sentence was imposed by the court, but it did not remain the operative outcome after opposition. In September, the prosecutor continued to request six months on the original matter. A prosecution request is not a court sentence.
What happened at the September 2026 hearing?
Belga reported that Schoenaerts passed both the theory and practical driving tests shortly before the 14 September deadline. At the hearing, he acknowledged inappropriate behaviour and apologized to police, according to the report. He said he was willing to do community service and take a 20-hour road-safety course at Vias; the report describes an offer, not a completed course.
His lawyer, Sven Mary, asked the court for a probationary suspension of the pronouncement. The prosecution opposed that request, citing eleven prior driving-related convictions, and also sought confiscation of the pickup. Those conviction counts and proposed penalties are attributed to the prosecution as reported by Belga; they are not presented here as independently verified court records or orders. Belga’s 15 September 2026 report in Soirmag described the hearing and said a verdict was expected in November.

What are the separate allegations from 2025?
The September report also covered separate alleged incidents in October and November 2025. Prosecutors alleged that Schoenaerts drove a pickup without a licence, refused breath and saliva tests, and resisted local police. They sought additional prison time and driving penalties. These are allegations and prosecution requests, not final findings. Mediation concerning the alleged resistance was still underway, according to the report.

The 2025 allegations should not be conflated with the April 2024 motorcycle case: the original six-month judgment concerned the 2024 incidents, while the later conduct was before the court as a separate matter. The September report said a verdict was expected in November 2026; no later outcome is established by the available coverage.

The available reports do not establish that he is going to prison. The six-month term was part of the December 2025 in-absentia judgment, then ceased to apply after he filed opposition. In September 2026, prosecutors were still seeking that term in the original case, with proceedings and a verdict pending. The reports do not establish the final result.

When the initial ruling was reported in December 2025, court spokesperson Luc De Cleir told The Independent that the chance Schoenaerts would actually go to prison was “almost nonexistent.” That was a contemporaneous assessment of the original ruling, not a guarantee about the opposition proceedings or the separate later allegations. De Cleir also said “a strict signal is necessary to protect society and prevent recidivism.” The Independent attributed both remarks to the court spokesperson.
Why is he described as a DCU star?
The description refers to Schoenaerts’s reported casting as Krem of the Yellow Hills in DC’s Supergirl, alongside Milly Alcock. That film role is career context and has no stated connection to the Belgian proceedings. DC’s Supergirl page provides the film context.
