You can begin with the character who interests you, starting at that series’ first issue or first collected volume; you do not need to read a large crossover first.
What is DC’s Absolute Universe?
DC introduced the Absolute Universe as part of its All In initiative, which began with DC All In Special #1 on October 2, 2024. The special was a 64-page flipbook co-written by Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson, with Daniel Sampere illustrating one direction and Wes Craig the other. DC described Absolute as a new setting in which familiar icons face stronger opposition with fewer advantages. DC’s announcement presented the core line as continuing alongside the new titles, rather than being erased or replaced.
DC described the post–Absolute Power status quo as two separate universes united by a prophecy. That makes “reinventing 86 years of history” promotional shorthand: the Absolute books rework characters and circumstances, but the announcement does not say that DC has discarded its existing history. DC’s New York Comic Con report also framed the line as a distinct universe.
Which Absolute series should you start with?
The first three solo launches make the premise clear. Their original release dates are listed here as historical dates, not upcoming schedule information.

| Series | What changes | Original issue-one announcement | Creative team |
|---|---|---|---|
| Absolute Batman #1 | Bruce Wayne has neither the wealth nor the mansion and butler associated with his core-line counterpart. | October 9, 2024 | Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta |
| Absolute Wonder Woman #1 | Diana is the last of her kind, raised in Hell rather than Themyscira and without an Amazonian sisterhood. | October 23, 2024 | Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman |
| Absolute Superman #1 | Superman begins without his usual family, Fortress of Solitude, or home. | November 6, 2024 | Jason Aaron and Rafa Sandoval |
These premises come from DC’s launch announcement and its October 2024 preview. Choose by the kind of reinterpretation you want: Batman without inherited resources, Wonder Woman separated from Amazonian culture, or Superman without familiar domestic anchors.
Do you need to read DC All In first?
No. DC called All In a jumping-on point for new and returning readers, and the launch materials do not establish a required crossover reading order before starting an Absolute character series. If you want the initiative’s setup, read DC All In Special #1; if you want a particular hero, start with that hero’s first issue or collected first volume.

How to read Absolute: single issues, collections, or digital
Start with a collected volume
A collection groups several serialized issues into one book. DC says Absolute Batman Vol. 1: The Zoo collects issues 1–6. Its July 2025 announcement listed hardcover and softcover editions at US prices of $24.99 and $17.99, respectively, and an August 5, 2025 publication date. These are historical announcement details, not a current price or availability guarantee. See DC’s October 2025 solicitations.
Absolute Superman Vol. 1: Last Dust of Krypton also collects issues 1–6. DC’s product listing gives it a 154-page count, a Teen Plus rating, and a US list price of $24.99 as represented on that page; check the listing or retailer for current price and stock. View DC’s product listing.

Read the original single issues
Single issues are the original serialized format. DC’s launch announcement points readers to participating comic shops and digital retailers. For current issue listings and collected editions, use DC’s comics catalog or check a retailer; catalog entries and shop stock can change.
Check digital access by country
DC Universe Infinite is another potential digital route, but availability depends on country. In October 2024, DC said Absolute Superman #1 would be available through the service on December 4, 2024; that was a dated launch statement, not a promise of present access. DC also says the service is not intended for children. Check the live DC Universe Infinite service for current regional availability and catalog access.

How the line expanded
The Absolute line grew beyond its initial Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman launches. DC’s October 2024 New York Comic Con report previewed Absolute Flash, by Jeff Lemire and Nick Robles, and Absolute Green Lantern, by Al Ewing and Jahnoy Lindsay. The DC Universe Infinite catalog reviewed for this article also listed launch issues for Absolute Martian Manhunter and Absolute Green Arrow, and categorized Absolute Evil in the line. Because catalog contents can change, consult the DC Universe Infinite catalog for its current listings.
In July 2025, DC announced five ongoing Absolute series in its October slate and an Absolute Evil special. It also described a pause in Absolute Martian Manhunter after its first chapter and a planned December 2025 return. Those were schedule statements made in 2025, not confirmation of the series’ current status. DC’s solicitation announcement provides that historical schedule context.
