Dayanara Torres announced in February 2019 that she had melanoma. She later described surgery and radiotherapy, then reported in March 2020 that her treatment was complete and her MRI, PET and CT scans were negative. That is a dated update—not confirmation of her medical status today.

When did Dayanara Torres learn she had cancer?

Torres later recalled that a biopsy came back positive for melanoma in January 2019. Her diagnosis became public on February 4, when she shared a statement about a mole that had changed over time and that she had not previously had checked. Telemundo reproduced her appeal: “If you see something or feel something different in your body have it checked.” This was Torres’s personal message, not a substitute for medical advice. Telemundo reported her announcement.

In a later first-person interview, Torres described the shock of hearing the biopsy result: “I felt this chill come over me all of a sudden, when I was told [the biopsy had come back] positive for melanoma. My soul left my body for a second. [I was] afraid, I cried,” People en Español’s interview attributes those words to her.

What did Torres say about the cancer and treatment?

People en Español described Torres’s cancer as stage 3, involving some lymph nodes but no other organs. In her public account, Torres said doctors removed a large area behind her knee and two lymph nodes near the top of her leg. She also described receiving radiotherapy after surgery. These details reflect her accounts and the outlet’s reporting; they do not provide a complete clinical record. People en Español covered the diagnosis and treatment.

In 2019, People en Español reported that she expected to continue treatment every 21 days until March 2020. AARP en Español likewise reported that treatment was expected to extend into early 2020. Those were plans reported at the time, not treatment guidance for other patients. AARP en Español’s report.

What was her recovery update?

Univision reported that Torres had her final treatment session in February 2020. On March 25, Telemundo reported her announcement that she had completed melanoma treatment and that her MRI, PET and CT scans were negative. This is the latest specific health update established by the sources cited here; it does not establish her current condition. Telemundo reported the March 2020 update.

How did Torres support melanoma awareness?

In October 2020, the Melanoma Research Foundation named Torres a spokesperson and featured model for its #GetNaked melanoma-awareness campaign. The foundation described her as a stage 3 metastatic melanoma survivor. The campaign used her public profile to encourage awareness; it is distinct from clinical information about symptoms or diagnosis. The foundation announced her campaign role.

What melanoma signs does public-health guidance describe?

The National Cancer Institute lists the ABCDE cues for potentially concerning pigmented spots: asymmetry, an irregular border, uneven color, diameter or change in size, and evolving change over time. It also notes changes such as itching, bleeding or ulceration. These signs are reasons to seek clinical assessment, not a checklist that can confirm or exclude melanoma.
