After his elimination from Survivor 48, David Kinne said his girlfriend left him after learning he had not won the show. He also explained that they had broken up and reconciled before he went on the island, a history that helped explain the relationship references in the show’s edited timeline.
What David Kinne said about the breakup
In a post-elimination interview published by Parade on April 24, 2025, Kinne said the relationship had ended again after he returned without winning the prize. He described the timing this way: “And unfortunately, everything I said on the island was 100% true. And as you can imagine, me sitting here having not won the million dollars, it didn’t take long for her to hit the road again.”
Contemporaneous Us Weekly and Just Jared coverage, quoting Kinne’s Entertainment Weekly interview, reported his more concise account: “A few weeks after she found out I didn’t win, she was out the door.” These are Kinne’s statements about the breakup; the cited coverage does not include an account from his former girlfriend.
Why the relationship seemed unclear on the show
Kinne told Parade that he and his girlfriend had broken up at one point, reconciled, and were dating again before he went on Survivor. He said the show’s edit had caused confusion about whether he had a girlfriend. That earlier split and reunion provide context for the references viewers saw on the island; they do not change his account that the relationship ended again after he did not win.
