David Gilmour said he would not perform on stage with Roger Waters again. His answer appeared in a Guardian reader interview published on 3 October 2024, while Gilmour was touring his album Luck and Strange—so it is a statement from that interview, not a new announcement in 2026.
What did David Gilmour say about performing with Roger Waters?
A Guardian reader asked Gilmour, “Do you think you will ever perform on stage with Roger [Waters] again?” Gilmour replied: “Absolutely not.” The exchange was published on 3 October 2024 in The Guardian’s reader interview.

Gilmour explained that he tended to avoid people who, in his view, actively support “genocidal and autocratic dictators like Putin and Maduro.” He added that nothing would make him share a stage with someone he believed thought the described treatment of women and LGBT people was acceptable. Those are Gilmour’s stated judgments and reasons, not independent findings established by the interview.
Was this the first time he had rejected a reunion?
No. The Independent reported on 4 October 2024 that Gilmour had given that publication an “unequivocal no” when asked about a possible reunion the previous month. Its report does not specify the date of that earlier interview. The Guardian answer was therefore a reaffirmation of a position Gilmour had already expressed in an interview, rather than evidence of a newly changed stance. The Independent’s report provides that earlier context.

What did Gilmour say about Rick Wright?
In the same answer, Gilmour contrasted his refusal to perform with Waters with a wish to share a stage again with the late Pink Floyd keyboardist Rick Wright. He called Wright “one of the gentlest and most musically gifted people I’ve ever known.”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does this settle whether Pink Floyd will reunite?
No. The question and answer were specifically about Gilmour performing on stage with Waters. They do not establish what might happen with other members, future recordings, or any other Pink Floyd-related activity. The Guardian interview’s immediate context was Gilmour’s Luck and Strange tour, not an announcement about the band’s wider future.
