Daryl Hannah’s Neil Young tour movie is Coastal, a feature-length documentary she directed about Young’s solo West Coast tour. Its worldwide one-night theatrical presentation took place on April 17, 2025, so it is a recent film rather than a new 2026 release. The movie also links to Hannah’s longer career as an actor and filmmaker.
What is Daryl Hannah’s Neil Young tour movie?
Coastal follows Neil Young on his solo Coastal tour, with scenes on his tour bus, candid observations and banter, and concert footage. Live Nation’s announcement describes performances featuring songs Young rarely or never played live, and frames the tour as his return to the stage after the COVID-era interruption. Hannah directed the film; the announcement identifies her as Young’s wife as well as its director.

Its worldwide one-night theatrical presentation was April 17, 2025. The American Film Institute’s 2025 listing gives Coastal a 105-minute runtime and a PG-13 rating.
What did Hannah say about making the film?
In an April 16, 2025 announcement from Live Nation, Hannah described the perspective she wanted to bring to the documentary: “With Coastal I wanted to highlight Neil’s authenticity, openness and vulnerability as a person, musician and performer,” The same statement says Young’s musical choices made filming unpredictable, and that the footage captures the emotion and spontaneity of the performances.

How does Coastal connect to Hannah’s Hollywood career?
Hannah is widely recognized for acting roles across several decades. Selected credits listed by Fandango include Pris in Blade Runner (1982), Madison in Splash (1984), Roxanne in Roxanne (1987), Annelle in Steel Magnolias (1989), and Elle Driver in Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) and Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004). Fandango also lists Neil Young: Coastal among her directing credits.
Her filmmaking work with Young predates Coastal. Netflix describes Paradox as a drama written and directed by Hannah, featuring new music from Neil Young and Promise of the Real. Unlike Coastal, which observes a tour, Paradox is a fantasy- and music-inflected feature. AARP’s April 2025 interview reported that Hannah had directed four films about Young since 2018; that is the interview’s count as of that date, not a complete independently verified directing chronology.

- UNPLUGGED originally released in 1993, was first recorded for an MTV Unplugged concert, along with additional live recordings. Young thoughtfully assembled a group of musicians he had recorded with over the years for this special aggregation that quickly became a collector's item as tapes were first shared from the show among his fans. The official live album is considered an acoustic one-of-a-kind release from Young’s 90’s canon.
Is there a Coastal soundtrack album?
Yes. AARP reported that Coastal: The Soundtrack, a companion live album containing 11 songs recorded on the tour, was released on April 17, 2025. The report does not specify a physical format or establish current retailer inventory. Current viewing platforms and physical editions of the film are likewise not established by the available sources, so availability should be checked with current listings.
