David Genat won Season 2 of Deal or No Deal Island by accepting the Banker’s US$5.8 million offer in the finale. In an exclusive interview with Parade, he described his decision as a mix of showmanship, confidence, spiritual conviction and responsibility to the people who had supported him—not as a calculation he could prove was mathematically optimal.
How much did David Genat win?
Genat accepted US$5.8 million, the finale offer that made him the Season 2 winner. Peacock and Paramount Australia & New Zealand both reported the amount as US$5.8 million. The title’s “$5 Million” is a rounded description, not the reported payout. Peacock’s recap and Paramount’s recap describe the win; Paramount characterizes it as record-breaking, but that superlative has not been independently established across every television prize category.
Why did he take the offer?
In Mike Bloom’s Parade interview, Genat said he wanted to create a moment viewers would remember. “I live for big television moments. I live for it,” he said. He also recalled feeling spiritually grounded as he chose his case: “I was really having a very spiritual experience out there. I felt my dad’s presence, and I just felt really safe.” These are Genat’s retrospective explanations of his experience, not independent evidence that the choice was mathematically sound.
Genat also said he felt responsibility toward the production team and the players who had supported him. His account presents the choice as more than a personal gamble: he was thinking about the people invested in the outcome as well as the television moment he hoped to deliver. How did alliances factor into his win?
In an interview with TV Insider, Genat called his social game his strongest asset and discussed the relationships he built with players who could influence his route through the competition. Peacock and Paramount refer to his alliance as “The Family.” His comments underscore that the path to the final Banker offer involved relationships as well as performance in challenges; they are his account of the game, not an independent assessment of every contestant’s motives. What was the $12.2 million case-switch reveal?
TV Insider reported that after Genat accepted the $5.8 million offer, the show played through a case-switch scenario in which he opened a case worth $12.2 million. That figure was part of a hypothetical replay after his decision; it was not the amount he accepted or won. Reflecting on it, Genat told TV Insider, “$5.8 [million] is so much money.”

The interviews and recaps do not establish the full case state, probability assumptions or Genat’s risk preferences needed to determine whether another choice would have been mathematically optimal. The $12.2 million reveal alone cannot answer that question.
