How does the song use Elon Musk’s words?
The lyric material comes from Musk’s own statements rather than newly written commentary about him. Byrne told Variety on September 2, 2026: “All his own words. No editorialising. Straight from the man’s mouth to mine.”
In an October 8, 2026 release-day interview with The Line of Best Fit, Byrne said, “It would be too easy and probably not as much fun to overtly criticize Musk.” He explained that using Musk’s phrases lets the song’s character describe himself. The approach makes the quoted language—not an added argument from the songwriters—the central device.
