The arbitration’s terms and exact completion date were not publicly disclosed in the reporting reviewed. Hall later filed to dismiss the court matter without prejudice, according to a report by TheWrap.
What was the dispute about?
In November 2023, Hall asked a Nashville court to prevent Oates from selling his stake in Whole Oats Enterprises LLP to Primary Wave IP Investment Management LLC while their dispute proceeded in arbitration. Court materials described the business assets at issue as including Hall & Oates trademarks, personal name and likeness rights, record royalty income, and website and social media assets. The Associated Press reported on the dispute.
How did the case end?
In an August 11, 2025 status report, Hall’s attorneys said the claims had been adjudicated in arbitration and a final judgment had been entered. They also proposed that the judge dismiss the court case. The Associated Press reported that it was unclear when the arbitration concluded and that its result had not been made public. On August 13, TheWrap reported that Hall filed to dismiss the claim against Oates and his trust without prejudice. That describes the subsequent court filing; it does not reveal the confidential arbitration outcome. TheWrap’s report.

What did Hall and Oates say?
Hall’s filings accused Oates of blindsiding and betraying him over the proposed sale. Oates disputed Hall’s characterization, saying in a court declaration, as quoted by the Associated Press, “I’m deeply hurt that Hall was making ‘inflammatory, outlandish, and inaccurate statements’ about me.” These were the parties’ positions, not judicial findings about who was right. The Associated Press reported both statements.
In comments to The Times relayed by the Associated Press, Hall said of the relationship: “That ship has gone to the bottom of the ocean.” Associated Press coverage.
