Food Network personality Darnell Ferguson was arrested in St. Matthews, Kentucky, on January 9, 2024, on charges that initially included burglary and strangulation. Those were arrest-era charges, not findings of guilt. On May 13, 2025, Ferguson pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors—second-degree criminal mischief and harassment—and was sentenced, according to WDRB. The reported plea was not to burglary or strangulation.
Why was Darnell Ferguson arrested?
Entertainment Tonight reported that Ferguson was arrested in St. Matthews on January 9, 2024, and booked into Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections. The initial charges included felony strangulation and burglary, as well as misdemeanor assault, menacing, criminal mischief, terroristic threatening, and theft-receipt of a stolen credit or debit card. These were charges at the time of arrest; they do not by themselves establish that the alleged conduct occurred.
ET attributed its account of the incident to a Kentucky Court of Justice case memo. The memo alleged that Ferguson entered Tatahda Ferguson’s residence, yelled, damaged property, grabbed her by the neck, threatened to kill her, and took payment cards and identification. Court TV’s contemporaneous account of protective-order materials also described allegations of an uninvited entry and property damage. Those arrest-era descriptions are allegations, not findings proved at trial.
What did Ferguson plead guilty to?
WDRB reported that on May 13, 2025—the day his trial was scheduled to begin—Ferguson pleaded guilty to misdemeanor second-degree criminal mischief and harassment. He did not plead guilty to burglary or strangulation, according to the reported plea account.

WDRB said Ferguson maintained that he had not assaulted his wife. In its account of the plea, the outlet reported that he admitted the couple argued, that he pushed her, and that he punched a door. Assistant Jefferson Commonwealth’s Attorney Max Gosman explained the change from the original case this way: “Sometimes, the case you begin with looks a lot different factually based on a lot of different circumstances when you reach the end of the case.” Gosman said the plea offenses were commensurate with what prosecutors believed they could prove at trial; that was the prosecutor’s explanation.
What sentence did the court impose?
WDRB reported that the judge imposed a 12-month sentence, conditionally discharged for two years, and a $250 fine. The outlet’s report establishes those terms as of the May 13, 2025 disposition; it does not establish whether the conditional-discharge period was later modified or completed.

What happened to the burglary and strangulation charges?
The reporting on the May 2025 disposition describes a guilty plea to two misdemeanors, not a conviction for burglary or strangulation. The sources cited here do not report a jury verdict on the original allegations, nor do they establish a separate acquittal. The distinction matters: the arrest charges describe how the case began, while the misdemeanor plea describes the reported outcome.
