What is Daredevil: Born Again about?
Daredevil: Born Again is a Marvel Television continuation about Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer with heightened abilities who secretly fights crime as Daredevil, and Wilson Fisk, a former mob boss seeking political power. Their conflict expands from a personal rivalry into a battle involving law, organized crime, city government, and vigilantism.
Matt represents two forms of intervention: legal work in the courtroom and dangerous action on the streets. Fisk uses a different combination of power, beginning with criminal influence and extending into political and institutional control. The series is therefore more than a conventional hero-versus-villain story: it asks whether justice can survive when one opponent controls official systems and the other operates outside them.

Marvel’s official Season 1 synopsis and character guide identifies Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, while Marvel’s Season 2 page describes Fisk’s campaign against Daredevil after Fisk becomes mayor.
Is Daredevil: Born Again connected to the Netflix Daredevil series?
Yes. Daredevil: Born Again continues the established Daredevil story and brings back the central characters and performers associated with the earlier continuity, including Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Wilson Bethel, and Ayelet Zurer. The returning relationships, past conflicts, and character histories are important parts of the new series.
The connection is especially clear through Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk, Karen Page, Foggy Nelson, Bullseye, and the Punisher-related street-level Marvel setting. The new series changes Matt’s circumstances substantially rather than simply resetting the earlier show. Marvel’s official preview also emphasizes that the returning actors bring unusual familiarity to these roles; Head of Marvel Television Brad Winderbaum said, Nobody understands those characters better than the actors playing them.
Marvel’s Season 1 preview attributes that statement to Winderbaum.

The opening immediately establishes that Fisk’s regime involves large-scale systems of power rather than only street-level criminals. Marvel’s official premiere breakdown explains the ship sequence and the season’s political premise.
Season 2 also adds Matthew Lillard as Mr. Charles, a mysterious figure who forces his way into the Fisks’ inner circle. Do you need to watch the original Daredevil before Born Again?
You do not strictly need to watch the original series to understand the basic premise of Daredevil: Born Again, because Marvel’s official season pages introduce Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk, and the central conflict. Watching the earlier Daredevil series is strongly recommended, however, if you want the emotional history behind Matt, Foggy, Karen, Fisk, Bullseye, and the returning street-level characters.

The earlier Daredevil story provides the most useful background. The wider Defenders-related stories, especially stories involving the Punisher and other Marvel street-level characters, add context but are not presented here as mandatory viewing. That distinction is viewing advice rather than an official Marvel requirement.

| Watch the original Daredevil first | More emotional context for Matt, Fisk, Karen, Foggy, and Bullseye. | Viewers who want the full character history. |
| Add Defenders-related stories | Broader context for Marvel’s street-level world and Punisher connections. | Completionists and viewers interested in the wider continuity. |
How does Daredevil: Born Again fit into the MCU timeline?
Marvel’s official MCU Complete Timeline places Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 before Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Season 2 follows those entries in Marvel’s published sequence. This placement comes from Marvel’s timeline rather than a fan-created viewing order.
Marvel’s Complete MCU Timeline is the authoritative source for that current sequence. Timeline placement explains where the series sits in the MCU, but viewers can still begin with the show itself if they mainly want Matt and Fisk’s story.
Which comics inspired Daredevil: Born Again?
Daredevil: Born Again uses ideas associated with Daredevil comics, but the television series should not be described as a panel-for-panel adaptation of Frank Miller’s story. Marvel identifies the Daredevil: Born Again Premier Collection, written by Frank Miller, as relevant source material in its Daredevil and Punisher reading guide.
For Season 2, Marvel specifically identifies Daredevil (1964) #60 and Devil’s Reign (2021) #1 as comics that inspired the face-off between Daredevil and Fisk’s anti-vigilante forces. Marvel says selected issues are available through Marvel Unlimited. Readers can use Marvel’s Season 2 comics reading guide and its Daredevil and Punisher reading guide to distinguish the named inspirations from the television adaptation.

Why does the legal drama matter as much as the action?
The legal drama is central because Matt’s courtroom work is not separate filler from his life as Daredevil. The series places legal justice, street-level intervention, organized crime, and government power in direct tension. Matt must decide not only how to stop Fisk, but also which methods remain consistent with the kind of justice he claims to defend.
The action is designed to produce character and ethical consequences rather than functioning only as spectacle. As Brad Winderbaum explains in Marvel’s Season 1 preview, The thing about violence in Matt’s world is that it always comes with a cost.
Marvel attributes the statement to Winderbaum.
