The game was first described as an “original story-driven action-comedy adventure”; by April 2026, the company called it an untitled AAA story-driven open-world project. It remained in development, with no release window or platforms announced in the company’s latest cited update.
What is the Absurdaverse?
The Absurdaverse is Absurd Ventures’ comedy-satire setting, with characters and stories intended to move between animation and open-world games. At its January 2025 reveal, the company teased it as a place to “meet some new kinds of heroes (and watch them suffer).” GamesBeat’s January 31, 2025 coverage and VGC’s February 1, 2025 report described the initial reveal as character imagery and a broad project description—not a gameplay showcase.
VGC reported that the artwork showed twenty colorful characters, including figures it compared visually to familiar GTA-style protagonists, a Viking, and a hooded ghoul. Those are descriptions of the images, not official character biographies.
What game is Dan Houser making?
Absurd Ventures initially described the game as an “original story-driven action-comedy adventure game” set in the Absurdaverse. In April 2026, its announcement characterized the still-untitled game as an AAA story-driven open-world project. These descriptions establish the setting, broad tone, and open-world framing, but do not reveal its mechanics, gameplay systems, or how it will connect to the animation.

The January 2025 tease did not include a game title, platforms, or launch plan. The April 2026 update still listed the game as in development and said release windows and platform partnerships would come later. It therefore does not establish when or where the game will launch. The April 21, 2026 announcement republished by Capsule Computers is the latest cited project-status update.
Who is voicing the Absurdaverse characters?
In April 2026, Absurd Ventures announced its first wave of voice cast for the animated project: Rachel Dratch, Dan Soder, Ari Matti, Annie Lederman, Yamaneika Saunders, and Steph Tolev. The company said the projects might involve a cast of hundreds; that is an expectation, not a confirmed final cast size. The company’s April 2026 post announced the names and event plans.

Lazlow Jones, a longtime collaborator, described the intended crossover between formats: “The ABSURDAVERSE is our evolution of that tradition, partnering with comedians to bring these ridiculous characters to life with stories that will cross over between animation and open-world games.” Dan Houser said, “I look forward to introducing some of our newest group of maniacs from our next universe in this first set of animated shorts.” Both quotes appeared in the April announcement republished by Capsule Computers.

Absurd Ventures said the shorts would premiere at an exclusive live event during the Netflix Is A Joke Festival on May 7 in Los Angeles. That describes a festival screening, not a general release or a streaming launch. The announcement did not provide a wider release date or distribution plan for the shorts or animated series.
