Viewers can search for and watch documentaries and other videos on Dailymotion; creators can publish videos and may qualify for advertising revenue; publishers can embed a player; and businesses can use Pro for more controlled hosting and live workflows. The right option depends on whether you want to watch, distribute, monetize, or host video—not simply on whether you need “streaming.”
What Dailymotion video streaming includes
Dailymotion delivers video over the internet in two main formats: video on demand (VOD), which viewers start when they choose, and live streaming, which is broadcast as an event. You may encounter Dailymotion as its public website, a mobile or supported TV app, an embedded player on a publisher’s site, or a hosting and distribution service behind a business’s own video experience.
Those experiences are not interchangeable. Public viewing and creator publishing use the consumer service; embedding can use a Dailymotion player; and paid Dailymotion Pro is designed for professional hosting, distribution, and related controls. Features such as live streaming, advanced advertising, and white-label hosting depend on the applicable plan and configuration. Dailymotion lists browser and app uploads, MRSS and API ingestion, VOD, 4K, 60 fps, 360-degree video, geoblocking, live-to-VOD recording, and live-stream APIs among its capabilities. How to watch Dailymotion videos
- Open Dailymotion in a supported browser or use a supported mobile application.
- Search for a title, subject, channel, or creator, then select a result.
- Use the player’s available controls for captions, playback quality, picture-in-picture, and other options. Live rewind may be available on supported streams.
- Sign in if you want to follow channels or manage features such as playlists, bookmarks, subscriptions, or viewing history.
Player options vary by device, app, browser, and video. Dailymotion’s player documentation describes adaptive HLS and DASH playback and support for up to 4K and 60 fps where the content and playback setup allow it. Adaptive streaming can lower or raise playback quality to suit the viewer’s connection; uploading a 4K file does not mean every viewer will receive a 4K stream. Check the player controls and capacities.

Browser, phone, tablet, and TV support
Dailymotion’s support matrix lists Chrome 95 or later, Firefox 115 or later, Safari 14 or later, and Edge 109 or later for desktop browsers. Its guidance lists Android 5.0 or later for the Android app and iOS 15 or later for the iPhone app; mobile-browser guidance lists Android 4.4 with updated Chrome and iOS 14 or later. These are the versions stated in Dailymotion’s support page, and app availability or behavior can still vary by device.
The same page says the Android app is not compatible with tablets and the iOS app is not compatible with iPads, recommending Dailymotion.com in a browser instead. Playback speed and keyboard controls are listed for desktop browsers, not the Android or iOS apps, and offline synchronization is listed as unavailable. Casting support also differs by environment: Dailymotion lists Chromecast support in Chrome and its mobile apps, and AirPlay in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and iOS. For Chromecast on a TV, its guidance points users to the Smart TV application. A missing cast button may therefore reflect the particular app, browser, or television setup rather than a fault with the video. Review the supported-device matrix.
How to upload a video to Dailymotion
- Sign in and open Dailymotion Studio.
- Upload through the desktop platform or a supported app. Dailymotion also supports ingestion through MRSS feeds and APIs for applicable workflows.
- Add the title, description, category, language, thumbnail, and publication or privacy settings. Check rights and visibility before publishing.
- Wait for processing, then review playback, captions, embedding settings, and monetization eligibility where applicable.
Upload limits depend on the account category. Dailymotion’s current technical-policy page gives these limits:

Dailymotion says limits may be increased by arrangement, so confirm the limits for your account rather than treating the higher-tier allowances as standard. The same policy lists MOV, MPEG4, MP4, AVI, WMV, MKV, and FLV containers, among others, and recommends H.264/AVC video with AAC audio. For a broadly compatible file, use an MP4 container with H.264 video and AAC audio, progressive scan, and an aspect ratio suited to the footage—commonly 16:9 landscape or 9:16 vertical. Dailymotion recommends MP4 and notes WebM compatibility limitations in Apple Safari environments. Check the upload policy and technical specifications; see recommended video formats and bitrates.

Recommended VOD encoding settings
Dailymotion’s recommended VOD settings, updated July 24, 2026, include the following targets. They are encoding recommendations, not a promise that every viewer or device will play at that resolution.

Choose settings appropriate to the original footage and its motion. Increasing resolution cannot restore detail lost to poor lighting or heavy compression, and it cannot fix weak source audio.
How Dailymotion live streaming works
Live broadcasting is different from uploading a finished video. Dailymotion’s setup guidance treats live streaming as a plan feature and directs users to contact an account manager or support to subscribe and configure it. Once enabled, the documented workflow is:
- In Dailymotion Studio, open Media > Live streams.
- Select New live stream and enter the title, category, language, and other details.
- Copy the encoder details. For RTMP, enter the Stream URL and Stream Key in your encoder; for SRT, use the SRT URL when supplied for your setup.
- Select Configure live stream, start the encoder, and monitor the event.
Dailymotion’s live-stream setup instructions cover the Studio workflow. Its encoding guidance lists RTMP over port 1935 or SRT, H.264 video, AAC audio, a two-second keyframe interval, 25/50 or 30/60 fps options, at least 192 kbps audio bitrate, and 44.1 kHz audio sampling. It recommends upload capacity of at least 150% of the encoded video bitrate. See the encoding parameters.

Dailymotion lists live publication controls, live-to-VOD recording, live rewind, manual ad breaks, and domain or app restrictions among its live capabilities. It also lists unlimited live streams and concurrent viewers in its feature overview; that feature statement should not be read as access for every account, since activation and plan configuration apply. How to embed Dailymotion video
Embedding involves configuring a player and then integrating it into a site or app. Dailymotion documents web options including an embed script, library script, and iframe, as well as Android and iOS SDKs. Developers can also use Dailymotion’s APIs and player tools. Read the Player Embed integration guide; see Dailymotion’s developer resources.
Before choosing an integration, decide whether you need Dailymotion branding or a white-label experience, whether recommendations should appear, whether playback should be restricted by domain, geography, or app, and whether you want advertising. Autoplay behavior is also subject to browser policies. A professional publisher may need analytics, APIs, or custom player behavior; those requirements can affect the appropriate plan.

How creator monetization works
Dailymotion says eligible creators can earn from ads shown before, during, or after videos. Its current creator help page states that a creator must reach 1,000 profile views to unlock monetization, and that monthly payments are transferred automatically once the balance exceeds $100, subject to payment setup and applicable terms. These thresholds do not guarantee earnings or a fixed return per view. Revenue can vary with whether ads are served, audience geography, advertiser demand, suitability, fill rate, viewability, rights, and account terms. See the creator monetization guidance.
Creator eligibility is distinct from the separate Creator Support Program. Dailymotion’s current guidance lists that program as limited to the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, France, Belgium, and Switzerland; availability and terms are program- and location-dependent. Standard creator videos have monetization enabled by default, and standard creators cannot disable it; uploads by ordinary users are not monetized under the same creator arrangement. For professional workflows, Dailymotion lists pre-, mid-, and post-roll ads, VAST and VPAID compliance, ads.txt and app-ads.txt, third-party measurement, targeting, brand-safety controls, and external ad-server configurations among relevant capabilities. The pricing page displayed a 14-day trial call to action and said annual billing saves up to 15%. Treat those as page-specific offers, not guarantees for every region or account. Starter or Advanced may suit a publisher seeking managed embeds and analytics; enterprise features are more relevant to organizations with live, OTT, or complex advertising needs. Where Dailymotion fits—and where it may not
- For documentary viewers: It offers public video discovery and playback, but it is not a subscription-only catalog like Netflix. Individual videos may have ads, and availability and player behavior vary.
- For creators: It can be another distribution channel, with advertising monetization for eligible creator accounts. It does not guarantee an audience or income.
- For publishers and organizations: Pro is the relevant path for controlled embeds, analytics, privacy features, APIs, and some professional live and advertising workflows.
- For live-event operators: Live-to-VOD, rewind, DVR, and ad insertion may be useful, but live streaming needs plan activation and encoder configuration.
- Potential drawbacks: Standard uploads have defined limits, professional capabilities require paid plans or account arrangements, monetization is conditional, and features are not uniform across every app and device. Offline synchronization is listed as unavailable.
Dailymotion compared by use case
No service is universally best; compare the primary job you need done. The distinctions below are evaluation starting points, not claims about current competitor pricing.

Troubleshooting common problems
A video will not upload
- Check the account’s file-size, duration, and daily upload limits.
- Re-encode a problematic file as MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio.
- Try a current supported browser and a stable network connection.
- Check processing status in Studio. If errors persist, use Dailymotion’s upload troubleshooting guidance.
Rights or content-policy issues can also affect publication. Upload only material you have the right or permission to publish. Dailymotion upload troubleshooting.
A live stream will not start or is unstable
- Verify the Stream URL and Stream Key, and confirm live streaming is enabled for the account.
- Use H.264 video, AAC audio, and the documented two-second keyframe interval.
- Check the encoder’s input and network connection; upload bandwidth should be at least 150% of the encoded video bitrate.
- Confirm the chosen protocol and settings match the configuration in Studio.

Playback looks soft or buffers
The viewer’s available bandwidth, source encoding, device capability, and processing status can all affect quality. Adaptive streaming may select a lower rendition to keep playback going. A high-resolution upload alone cannot ensure every viewer sees the highest quality.
Casting or monetization options are missing
For casting, verify the specific browser, app, and TV support path in Dailymotion’s device matrix. For monetization, check whether the account is an eligible creator or partner account, whether it has reached the stated profile-view threshold, whether the program is available in your location, and whether payment setup and the payout threshold are satisfied. Content eligibility and ad serving can affect individual videos as well.
