Critical Role Campaign Four takes place in Aramán, a new world rather than Exandria. Its story begins with war hero Thjazi Fang marked for execution, drawing people connected to him into a mystery shaped by dead gods and rebellion. The campaign also shifts between three adventuring groups—the Soldiers, Seekers and Schemers—so its lore arrives through multiple perspectives. This guide is spoiler-light through the official recap for C4E37, “Death to Tyrants,” dated October 7, 2026.
What is Aramán?
Aramán is the uncharted setting of Campaign Four. Critical Role describes the campaign as venturing beyond Exandria to explore a different world, with its own history and cosmology. The central backdrop is a society reckoning with the fallout of dead gods and a tumultuous rebellion. The campaign’s broad question is what great deeds people might accomplish without gods—and who might try to take the gods’ place. Critical Role’s campaign page introduces the premise; its August 21, 2025 announcement explicitly distinguishes Aramán from Exandria.
You do not need to treat Aramán as an extension of Exandria or arrive with a completed map of its past. Critical Role’s official lore page names important events and institutions, but its headings are not, by themselves, a complete chronology or explanation of how every event relates to the others. The lore page is best read as an evolving reference rather than a single definitive history.
Why does Thjazi Fang’s fate matter?
The campaign’s official premise centers on Thjazi Fang, a war hero marked for execution. People connected to his life gather to uncover the truth behind his fate, making his impending execution the story’s catalyst. That setup links personal loyalties and past dealings to Aramán’s larger political and divine upheaval; the published premise does not resolve the mystery in advance.

How do the Soldiers, Seekers and Schemers work?
Campaign Four uses a West Marches-style structure. After an opening Overture introduces characters and establishes the story, the show rotates among three groups rather than following one permanent adventuring party. Their accounts gradually intersect, giving viewers different vantage points on the world. It is a Dungeons & Dragons campaign using the 2024 rules, with some custom subclasses. Critical Role’s announcement describes the format.
- The Soldiers: One of the rotating groups. The faction name appears in the official campaign materials; the group is part of the wider perspective-sharing structure.
- The Seekers: A second rotating group, offering another thread in the campaign’s developing story.
- The Schemers: The third group. Their story, like the others, contributes a distinct view of Aramán before the threads intertwine.
The names are useful signposts, not a substitute for episode context: the campaign’s stories develop across the rotating tables, and the official premise does not reduce each group to a single fixed goal.

Which names and places are useful to know first?
These official profile details provide a starting map of people, institutions and conflicts without requiring later episode revelations. Character descriptions are orientation, not a complete account of what happens on screen.
Characters connected to Thjazi and the city
- Thimble is a pixie rogue and Thjazi’s longtime companion. Her profile describes her mourning his death and seeking vengeance, and calls her a stealthy partner-in-crime.
- Halandil “Hal” Fang is Thjazi’s brother, an orc bard and theater maven. He is drawn into danger by his brother’s schemes and wants to protect his children.
- Bolaire Lathalia is a construct and curator of the Archanade, a museum in Dol-Makjar. The profile’s unusual detail is that Bolaire is literally a mask inhabiting a body that is not truly his. He is also connected to Hal and to criminal dealings involving Thjazi.
- Kattigan Vale is a tracker who fought with Thjazi and travels with a loyal wolf named Wulferic.
Magic, faith and the gods’ legacy
- Vaelus is an elf and former servant of the fallen Shaper Sylandri. She is seeking the Stone of Nightsong, which Thjazi Fang and Thimble stole from Sylandri’s monastery.
- Thaisha Lloy is an orc wild mage traveling to right wrongs. Her family, the Lloys, forged the blades that killed the gods.
- Occtis Tachonis is the eighth son of House Tachonis, but lacked the sorcerous ability his family expected. After his family betrayed him, he became a reanimated soul in a dead body. He travels with Thaisha and created an undead fox, Pincushion.
- Wicander “Wick” Halovar is a scion of the Candescent Creed whose confidence in his family’s religion has been shaken by a shadowy truth. Teor Pridesire, a lionfolk mercenary and rebellion veteran, is honor-bound to protect Wick after Wick saved his life; Teor is also searching for his brother.
Rebellion and institutions
- Azune Nayar is a former Falconer’s Rebellion soldier and Arcane Marshal of Dol-Makjar’s Revolutionary Guard.
- The Penteveral is an academy for mages and arcanists.
- The Archanade is Dol-Makjar’s museum, with Bolaire Lathalia as curator.
The official lore page also lists the Shapers War and Fall of Azgra, Change of Power, the War of Axe and Vine, the Falconer’s Rebellion, the Sundered Houses, the Hallowed Round, the Seven Stars and Falcon’s Rest. Those names indicate areas of Aramán’s history and culture to watch for, but the page’s labels alone do not establish a full chronology or all their causes and consequences.

Do you need to watch earlier Critical Role campaigns?
No earlier campaign is presented as a prerequisite for understanding Campaign Four’s basic premise. Critical Role frames it as a new story in a new setting, which makes it an intended entry point for newcomers as well as longtime viewers. That does not guarantee every later reference will be self-contained, but the official framing does not require finishing Exandria’s earlier campaigns first. The campaign announcement describes the move beyond Exandria.
Where can you watch or catch up?
Critical Role’s campaign announcement lists Beacon, YouTube and Twitch as viewing platforms. It describes same-day VOD access and full podcast access for Beacon members, with ad-supported podcast availability later. The current campaign page also promotes Beacon-exclusive Critical Role Cooldown and companion recaps. Schedules, membership terms and platform availability can change; check the current campaign page and the announcement for the latest details.
