Craig Conover said his breakup with Paige DeSorbo was “very, very unexpected” in his first public response on Jan. 7, 2025. DeSorbo had announced the split on her podcast a week earlier. Their accounts emphasized different things: she described two people changing, while Conover later said he had not seen the breakup coming.
What Craig Conover said in his first response
On Jan. 7, 2025, Conover addressed the breakup in an Instagram Stories video. Bravo quoted him saying, “This has all been very, very unexpected, to say the least.” He said he was still processing the end of their relationship and would have to begin living a new normal. Bravo’s report described him as shocked and noted that the split came shortly before the holidays.
“Very unexpected” became the headline hook because it captured Conover’s own reaction to the news. It does not, by itself, establish what DeSorbo was feeling or explain every factor behind the breakup.

DeSorbo confirmed the split on the Dec. 30, 2024, episode of her Giggly Squad podcast, according to Bravo. She described it as “two people growing and changing and things that they want in their lives changing.” She also cautioned listeners against assuming they hated one another or that a single dramatic event had necessarily ended the relationship. Bravo reported that she called Conover a great boyfriend and said he had helped her grow.

What Conover later said about the breakup conversation
In a February 2025 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Conover gave more detail about the timing. He said DeSorbo called him after Thanksgiving and told him she thought they had to break up. He said the decision was not mutual from his perspective and that he had been preparing to move to New York. Those details are Conover’s account of the conversation, as reported by Bravo; they are not an independently established explanation for the split.
How their public accounts fit together
DeSorbo’s comments focused on the two of them changing and wanting different things. Conover’s first response focused on his shock, and his later account described how the breakup conversation unfolded from his point of view. The emphasis differs, but neither statement alone supplies a definitive, independently corroborated cause. The exact date the relationship ended has not been established in the cited reports.

In April 2025, during a Southern Charm After Show discussion, Conover spoke about grieving the relationship. Bravo quoted him saying, “I know I’ll be okay but it just sucks.” That comment offers later emotional context; his Jan. 7 statement remains the source of the “very unexpected” phrase.
