The available record confirms that Courtney Love made a serious accusation about Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor in a since-deleted Instagram post in June 2021, and that she later apologized after making claims about him. It does not independently establish whether the alleged abuse occurred. That gap is not proof that the accusation was false.
What did Courtney Love accuse Trent Reznor of?
NME reported that Love posted the accusation on Instagram on June 13, 2021, in a post concerning the #MeToo movement and a separate dispute involving Dave Grohl. According to NME’s account of the now-deleted post, Love accused Reznor of abuse, said she had witnessed it while performing with Hole, and referred to girls as young as 12. These are allegations attributed to Love, not independently established facts.
The post is no longer available, and the source account does not provide a basis for treating its claims as verified. For that reason, the distinction matters: Love made the accusation; the available reporting does not establish that the alleged conduct happened.
Did Love later retract the accusation?
NME later reported that Love apologized after posting claims about Reznor and Grohl. That supports saying she apologized. It does not, by itself, establish that she formally retracted every part of the allegation, nor does an apology settle whether the alleged abuse occurred.

Is there independent evidence confirming or disproving it?
The sources available for this account document the accusation and the subsequent apology, but do not independently corroborate or disprove the alleged abuse. They also do not establish a court, regulator, or other official finding concerning the allegation. That describes the limits of the available record here; it should not be read as proof that no such record exists.
No direct 2021 response from Reznor was established in these sources. It would therefore be inaccurate to describe him as having confirmed or denied this specific allegation, or to infer a position from the absence of a response in the reporting considered here.

What does their 1990s history add?
Love and Reznor had a public dispute during a Nine Inch Nails tour that included Hole. A transcript of a Details profile published in April 1995 quotes Reznor describing Love as intoxicated on tour, disputing her public account of their relationship, and saying they had not had a sexual relationship. Those are Reznor’s statements as reported in the profile, not neutral findings.
Journalist Paul Du Noyer, writing about an interview with Love on June 5, 1995, for a Q cover story published in August 1995, described the two musicians as having toured together that year and having had a brief affair. That account conflicts with Reznor’s denial as quoted in Details. The sources preserve differing accounts of their relationship; neither provides corroboration of the abuse allegation Love made in 2021.

So, are any of the accusations “remotely true”?
What can be established is that Love made the accusation, as NME reported, and later apologized after making claims about Reznor and Grohl, also as NME reported. Whether the alleged abuse itself occurred remains unverified in the available sources. The apology and the earlier conflict do not resolve that question: neither is independent evidence for or against the alleged conduct.
