The box is the Manhattan Aero 4K streamer: a TiVo OS device that brings Freely to a compatible television over broadband. It may replace some free-to-air viewing—and help some households cut a paid TV package—but it does not include paid streaming subscriptions or guarantee access to every programme in a Sky or Virgin package.
What is the Freely TiVo box?
It is the Manhattan Aero 4K, a streaming device identified by Freely as a way to add the service to an existing TV. It runs TiVo OS and connects to the television through HDMI. Freely is the UK free-to-view service associated with the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5; its arrival on plug-in devices followed an earlier TiVo OS integration announcement for Vestel smart TVs, which is a separate product context.
Freely lists more than 70 live channels and more than 400 additional channels through TiVo+. Those counts can change. The Aero also offers apps including Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+; their presence on the device does not include their subscriptions. What can you watch for free—and what still costs?
Freely provides live and on-demand viewing from its participating broadcasters without a monthly Freely subscription. Its features include a seven-day guide, pause and restart, and the ability to move between live and on-demand programmes. Broadcaster apps such as BBC iPlayer, ITVX and Channel 4 may ask you to create their own free accounts.

Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ are separate apps, not free subscriptions bundled with the Aero. If you use them, you still need to pay for the relevant plan. Nor does Freely promise access to every premium sports event, film library, drama or other paid-only programme in a pay-TV package. ITV described Freely’s live-and-on-demand proposition at launch, but that should not be read as a claim that all viewing is free: ITV’s launch announcement.
Can it replace Sky, Virgin or another paid TV package?
It could replace or reduce some paid TV viewing if the channels and catch-up programmes you actually watch are available on Freely and you do not depend on paid-only content or set-top-box features your package provides. It is not a like-for-like replacement for every household.

Before cancelling, check these parts of your own viewing and costs:
- Channels and programmes: List the live channels and recent catch-up shows you regularly watch, then confirm they are available through Freely.
- Premium viewing: Check whether your routine includes sports, premium drama, films or other content that is only available through a paid service.
- Apps and subscriptions: Identify which streaming services you already pay for. The Aero can provide access to apps, but it does not make their subscriptions part of Freely.
- Broadband: Confirm that your home has a reliable connection in the room where the TV is used.
- Total cost and equipment: Compare any TV-package saving with the Aero’s purchase price, broadband costs and the subscriptions you intend to keep. The sources cited here give different historical launch and review prices, not a dependable current price; check a retailer before buying.
A government stakeholder paper reports an Everyone TV claim that Freely covered 97% of the nation’s favourite shows, based on BARB data from September 2024 to January 2025. That is a content-coverage claim, not a share of viewing or a guarantee that a particular household’s preferred programmes are included. The government paper gives the context.

Do you need an aerial, broadband or a TV licence?
Aerial and internet connection
The Aero does not require an aerial connection or satellite dish for Freely: it streams the service over broadband and connects to the TV by HDMI. That makes it an option for an older television with an HDMI input, provided the broadband connection is suitable.
Freely recommends a continuous download speed of 10 Mbps for HD and 40 Mbps for 4K. These are its guidance figures, not a guarantee of quality in every home; stability and how the connection is shared also matter. See Freely’s older-TV guidance.

TV licence
Using Wi-Fi rather than an aerial does not remove the UK TV licence requirement. Freely says a licence is legally required to watch or record live television on any channel or service, and to use BBC iPlayer.

The available product information establishes it as a 4K streaming device, not a proven substitute for every function of a pay-TV set-top box. The sources cited here do not establish that it records programmes, so do not assume it replaces a recorder. Independent review coverage reports support for HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG, but not Dolby Vision; check the device specifications and your TV’s compatibility if those picture formats matter. Freely itself says it has no monthly subscription charge, but device prices and stock can change. Published coverage has cited different dated price points: What Hi-Fi? reported an announced launch price of £69.99, while TechRadar’s February 2026 review gave £89.99 and noted no Amazon stock at the time it checked.
