What happened during Feldman and Johnson’s performance?
Feldman, the actor and musician, competed with professional dancer Jenna Johnson in the Season 34 premiere. Their tango was set to Billy Joel’s “It’s Still Rock & Roll to Me.”

As Entertainment Weekly reported in an article republished by AOL, Hough gave the pair 4 points. The report said he prefaced the score with, “Well, after that I feel terrible, but love you buddy.” Tonioli then awarded 5 points, bringing the two judges’ combined total to 9.
Why were there boos?
The report described a smattering of boos after Hough revealed his score. It did not report that the audience was booing Feldman, nor does “smattering” establish a unanimous reaction. Tonioli defended Hough, saying, “He’s doing his job!”

The phrase “first audience boos of the season” came from coverage of the early-season moment, not a count of every audience response throughout Season 34. Boos were reported again at the November 25, 2025, finale, directed at a judge’s critique of Dylan Efron.
What did the 9-point score mean?
The 9 was the pair’s judges’ score for this premiere performance, not an elimination result. Viewer scores also factored into eliminations, according to the report. ABC7 reported that the leading premiere score was 15 out of 20, giving the episode’s scores a context; that comparison applies to the same premiere, not to later weeks or other seasons.

When did the story happen, and where can viewers find the show?
ABC announced Feldman and Johnson as a couple before the season began and said the September 16, 2025, premiere would air live on ABC and Disney+, with episodes available the next day on Hulu. ABC’s current series page lists Season 35 episodes and Disney+ streaming, so the original Season 34 schedule should not be mistaken for current catalog availability in every territory.
