Then check the VPS state, network interface, firewall rules, service status and route. A disconnect does not, by itself, prove that Contabo is at fault; the cause could be at several points between the streaming software and YouTube.
1. Identify the kind of failure in OBS
During a failure, open OBS Stats and note the network-dropped-frames count. Also record the time, configured bitrate, whether the stream recovered, and whether it disconnected. OBS explains that network-dropped frames occur when the connection to the remote ingest server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate; enough dropped frames can lead to disconnection. That points to a network path or throughput issue, but does not identify which provider or device is responsible. OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting
Compare the symptom with OBS’s other performance indicators. If network-dropped frames are increasing, prioritize the connection and bitrate path rather than assuming the encoder is the cause. Preserve the OBS log from the affected session if you need to compare events or contact support.
2. Check whether the VPS and its network configuration are healthy
Confirm the server is running
Check the VPS state in the Contabo customer panel. If you cannot reach the server normally, Contabo recommends checking its state and trying access from another network. A different access network can help distinguish a local VPN, firewall or corporate-network restriction from an issue at the server, but it does not by itself test the VPS’s outgoing route to YouTube. Review recent changes and the network interface
If the stream started failing after a configuration change, review that change first. For a suspected server-side networking problem, verify that the network interface is up and that the configured address, subnet and gateway are correct. Contabo recommends checking these settings when investigating unstable connections. Use the provider’s console or other documented management access if ordinary access has failed; do not apply commands copied for a different operating system or network setup. 3. Check firewall rules in the right direction
Review both Contabo’s product firewall, if enabled, and the firewall inside the guest operating system. Look for rules that block the streaming software’s required traffic, and check the direction of each rule rather than treating all firewall policies as equivalent.

Contabo documents that its product firewall drops inbound traffic by default after activation, while outbound traffic is unrestricted by default. That documented default does not mean the guest operating system’s firewall is unrestricted, nor does it establish that every individual stream can reach its destination. 4. Check service status and investigate the route
Look at Contabo’s service-status information for an incident affecting your server or data center. If no incident is listed but the evidence points to a routing problem, record traceroute or MTR output and its timestamp. Contabo recommends providing route results to support when investigating suspected routing faults. A route trace is diagnostic evidence, not proof on its own that a particular hop is responsible. 5. Use another destination as a diagnostic, not a cure
OBS suggests testing a different streaming destination to help determine whether the problem is specific to one service. If another destination works while YouTube does not, that narrows the investigation but does not conclusively identify YouTube, Contabo, or any other single cause. What Contabo’s bandwidth figures do—and do not—tell you
Contabo says its VPS, VDS and dedicated servers have no default bandwidth limit, subject to a fair-use policy, and reserves the ability to throttle exceptionally high or disruptive use. Its documentation lists VPS and VDS port speeds from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Those are provider specifications, not a measurement of sustained upload from your particular VPS to the YouTube ingest route you are using, and they do not guarantee that your configured stream bitrate will remain stable.
