At the end of Constellation Season 1, Episode 7, Valya invites Alice to go with her if Alice wants to see her mother again. Alice takes the encounter as a reason to get Jo back from Irena. The scene suggests Valya is drawing Alice into the crisis around Jo, but the episode does not confirm what Valya ultimately wants—or whether Alice is meeting her supernaturally, in a liminal state, or through a psychological vision.
What happens at the end of Episode 7?
“Through the Looking Glass” brings its two Alices into contact in an in-between cabin, where they communicate using a tape recorder and a mirror. TV Obsessive reads the cabin as existing between the show’s principal realities; Space.com notes that it matches neither of the two main settings. Those are interpretations of the imagery, not an explanation confirmed by the episode. TV Obsessive’s recap and Space.com’s review discuss the scene.

After the cabin catches fire, Jo finds Alice and tries to revive her after smoke inhalation. Space.com describes the Alice from the reality where Jo returned from the ISS as nearly dying, then encountering the dead cosmonaut called the Valya in a “third reality.” In the hospital vision, Valya offers to take Alice to her mother. Alice wakes and tells Magnus that they need to get Jo back from Irena. TV Obsessive’s Episode 7 podcast recap also reports Alice’s response to Magnus.
What does the Valya want with Alice?
What the scene establishes
Valya’s offer is conditional and personal: “Come away, child,” she tells Alice, according to TV Obsessive’s recap, if Alice wants to see her mother again. Alice links the encounter to Jo’s situation and Irena. The episode establishes the invitation and Alice’s reaction, but it does not explain Valya’s ultimate purpose.

A grounded reading of Valya’s appeal
One reasonable interpretation is that Valya wants Alice to follow or trust her, using Alice’s longing for her mother as the reason to come. That could draw Alice into whatever is happening to Jo. But Episode 7 does not establish whether Valya is deliberately manipulating Alice or genuinely believes she can help her. Treating either motive as confirmed goes beyond what the scene shows.
Is Valya really Irena?
Episode 7 does not resolve whether Valya and Irena are the same continuing person or distinct aspects, nor does it explain why Alice can perceive Valya. It also leaves open whether Valya is independently present, whether Alice is experiencing contact in a liminal state, or whether the encounter is a vision connected to her near-death experience. Space.com explicitly leaves the supernatural-versus-psychological question open. These are unresolved possibilities, not answers the episode settles.

What the ending means for Alice and Jo
The ending turns Alice’s vision into an immediate intention: she tells Magnus they need to get Jo back from Irena. The emotional link is clear—Valya invokes Alice’s mother, and Alice responds by focusing on Jo—but what that link means for the show’s realities or Valya’s identity remains uncertain. The English title is “Through the Looking Glass”; Apple TV’s German-language press listing gives the localized title “Zwischen den Welten” and dates Episode 7 to March 20, 2024. Apple TV Press’s episode listing corroborates the localized title and date.
