Weezer opened the Voyage to the Blue Planet Tour at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on September 4, 2024, with a set built around a clear destination: the Blue Album, played in full for its 30th anniversary. The recorded running order first traveled through a mix of hits and deeper cuts, then a Pinkerton passage, before reaching the album that gave the tour its name. The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. completed the bill.
The anniversary promise and the opening-night bill
Xcel Energy Center announced the North American tour as a celebration of the 30th anniversary of Weezer’s self-titled 1994 debut, commonly known as the Blue Album. The venue said Weezer would perform the album in full alongside other favorites and rarities, with The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. as support. Xcel Energy Center’s event listing establishes the date, venue and announced bill; its tour announcement describes the anniversary concept.
That premise made the structure important: a full-album performance could have been presented as a standalone block, but the recorded opening-night set instead built toward it. The sequence gives the concert a staged, space-travel frame while letting the group draw from more than the anniversary record.
How the St. Paul set was structured
The setlist.fm entry for September 4 records a three-part progression: a mixed-catalog opening, a Pinkerton section, and then the Blue Album sequence. It is a user-contributed setlist record, useful for the reported order but not proof of how the songs sounded or how the crowd reacted.

A mixed-catalog launch
After the “Blue Voyage Takeoff” cue, the database lists “Anonymous,” “Return to Ithaka,” “Dope Nose,” “Hash Pipe,” “Pork and Beans,” “Beverly Hills,” “Burndt Jamb,” “Island in the Sun,” “Any Friend of Diane’s,” “Perfect Situation,” and “Run, Raven, Run.” Familiar singles sit beside less expected selections, so the set’s first stretch was not simply a run of greatest hits before the anniversary album.
A Pinkerton middle passage
The next recorded section comprises “Getchoo,” “Why Bother?,” “Pink Triangle,” “You Gave Your Love to Me Softly,” and “Across the Sea.” This creates a distinct catalog chapter between the opening mix and the Blue Album finale, rather than blending every non-album song into one continuous warm-up.

The Blue Album destination
Following a “Blue Voyage Landing” cue, the setlist records the Blue Album sequence from “My Name Is Jonas” through “Only in Dreams,” followed by “Voyage to the Blue Planet Credits.” That order fulfills the concert’s central advertised promise and gives the full album the final major musical passage of the night. The takeoff, landing and credits cues provide the tour concept with bookends; the available setlist confirms their placement, not the staging or production details around them.

What the format accomplishes—and what the record cannot tell us
As a set design, the progression gives the anniversary album context rather than treating it as the entire event: the mixed opening establishes breadth, Pinkerton supplies a focused middle section, and the Blue Album closes the main musical journey. The recorded order supports that reading, and the full-album run matches the venue’s advance description.
That is a structural assessment, not a firsthand verdict on the performance. The setlist cannot establish sound quality, pacing between songs, visuals, audience response or whether the transitions felt seamless in the arena. Chris Riemenschneider’s contemporaneous Minnesota Star Tribune review frames the combination of bands as an unlikely arena pairing for acts associated with an earlier alternative-rock audience. He described them as “witty, cartoonish and melodic”—his critical characterization, not a measured consensus among concertgoers.

Verdict
Weezer’s St. Paul opener appears, from the announced concept and recorded set order, to have delivered the anniversary centerpiece while making room for a broader catalog trip. The format’s strongest idea is its progression: familiar songs and rarities lead into a Pinkerton chapter, then the complete Blue Album arrives as the promised destination. The available record makes a case for the set’s architecture, but not for claims about the night’s sound or crowd.
