Is Companion streaming in the U.S.?
Yes. Warner Bros. Discovery announced that Companion began streaming exclusively on Max on April 18, 2025. The same announcement scheduled its HBO linear-channel premiere for April 19, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET: Warner Bros. Discovery announcement.
Max is the service’s current name; older pages may still call it HBO Max. Subscription streaming is different from renting or buying the film, and the movie can leave a catalog or vary by account and territory.

Current U.S. listing
As checked August 18, 2026, JustWatch’s U.S. listing showed Companion on Max and certain Max/Cinemax channel offerings, alongside digital rental and purchase listings. Treat that page as a current availability guide, not a permanent rights announcement.
Where can you rent or buy Companion online?
| Method | U.S. status | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Max | Subscription streaming listing | Existing subscribers or viewers planning to watch other Max titles |
| Amazon Video | Digital rental and/or purchase listing may be available | Amazon users who want a one-time transaction |
| Apple TV Store | Digital rental and/or purchase listing may be available | Viewers using Apple’s app and account ecosystem |
| Fandango At Home | Digital rental and/or purchase listing may be available | Viewers who keep purchases in that service’s library |
Search each storefront for the exact title before paying. Rental and purchase rights, prices, resolution (SD, HD or 4K), bonus features and device support can differ, and a listing can disappear or be temporarily unavailable. A digital “purchase” is a retailer-controlled license rather than a DRM-free file, so playback depends on the provider’s account, app and supported devices.
When was the Companion VOD release?
The commonly listed U.S. digital rental-and-purchase date is February 18, 2025, according to the film’s release summary on Wikipedia. No current Warner Bros. primary announcement confirming that exact date was identified, so it is best treated as a reported home-entertainment date. Digital availability came before the Max subscription debut.
What “VOD” means here
- Rental: usually permits viewing for a limited period, often starting when playback begins; the exact window is set by the retailer.
- Purchase: provides continuing access through the retailer, subject to its account, app and service terms.
- Subscription stream: access is included while the title remains in a qualifying catalog and the subscription is active.
When did the DVD, Blu-ray and 4K editions come out?
In the United States, all three listed physical formats were released on April 1, 2025:
Rank #2
| Format | U.S. release date | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| DVD | April 1, 2025 | Works with DVD hardware but has lower picture quality than Blu-ray or 4K UHD. |
| Blu-ray | April 1, 2025 | Higher-definition picture than DVD; requires a Blu-ray player. |
| 4K Ultra HD | April 1, 2025 | For a 4K television, compatible UHD player and suitable audio setup. |
The date is listed by Blu-ray.com and the Criterion Pictures release schedule. Packaging and bonus content are not necessarily identical across formats or territories.
Bonus features and digital codes
Warner Bros. Japan lists “I Feel, Therefore I Am,” “The Love Between Eli and Patrick” and “AI Horror” as extras for its Japanese Blu-ray/DVD release: Japanese Warner Bros. product page. That listing does not confirm the contents of every U.S. edition.
Do not assume every physical copy contains a valid digital code. Warner Bros. says codes are supplied with qualifying products and can expire based on the title’s release date, not the date you bought the disc. See its expired-code guidance and missing-or-blank-code guidance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Are the release dates the same worldwide?
No. Home-release schedules are territory-specific. For example, Warner Bros. Japan lists digital purchase and rental on May 28, 2025, followed by a Japanese Blu-ray/DVD set on August 6, 2025: Japanese release announcement. Those dates should not be substituted for the U.S. schedule. U.K., Canadian, Australian and other-market availability must be checked in the relevant local storefront or distributor listing.

Which viewing option makes sense?
Choose Max if you already subscribe
Streaming on Max avoids a separate movie transaction, but requires an active subscription and does not create ownership. It is less economical if you are subscribing only for one film.
Rent digitally for one viewing
A rental suits a single movie night and works on common televisions, phones, tablets and streaming devices. Check the retailer’s playback deadline before starting.
Buy digitally for repeat viewing without a disc player
A digital purchase is convenient for repeat access, but remains tied to the seller’s account, app, supported devices and continuing service terms.
Buy Blu-ray or 4K UHD for a physical collection
Choose Blu-ray or 4K UHD for a physical copy, offline playback and collecting. 4K requires compatible hardware; DVD is the practical choice only when you have older DVD equipment or do not need high-definition picture quality.
