Her husband, Chris, and son, Digby, survived her. In its memorial statement, management asked that the family’s privacy be respected.
Cal Wilson’s career in comedy and television
From Christchurch to Australian comedy
Wilson was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, and moved to Melbourne in 2003 to appear in the sketch comedy series Skithouse. Her management described her as a constant in Australian comedy for “the last twenty years.” She appeared at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 14 times and also served on its board.

Television and stand-up
Australian audiences knew Wilson from panel and comedy programs including Spicks and Specks, Good News Week and Would I Lie to You? She also co-hosted The Great Australian Bake Off, which was in production when she was admitted to hospital. Her management’s biography records a Netflix stand-up special, though the sources do not establish whether it is currently available to stream.
Wilson’s work reached beyond performance: a portrait of her wearing a headdress made from doll parts and Christmas baubles won the 2023 Archibald Prize Packing Room Prize.

Comedian Adam Hills remembered her as “one of life’s best people and she made everyone happy. Everyone. Off stage and on.” Damian Callinan, a close friend and fellow comedian, told ABC: “She was surrounded by love when she left and her love continues to spread around the country and the world,”
Management’s statement also praised Wilson’s generosity, talent and friendship, describing her as a lasting presence in the Australian comedy scene.
