Colleen Ballinger’s “Toxic Gossip Train” was a song in a June 2023 response video, not the name of a separate controversy. The video followed former fans’ allegations about her interactions with young fans and became a story in its own right because Ballinger used it to dispute accusations and describe online criticism as gossip. A retrospective podcast listing dated June 22, 2026 shows that the episode has been revisited, but it does not establish a broad or sustained revival of public attention.
What former fans alleged
In June 2023, former fans publicly described what they said were inappropriate interactions and boundary problems involving Ballinger when they were young. Contemporary reporting included accounts concerning private communications and interactions at live shows. These are allegations attributed to the people who made them; they should not be treated as legal findings or as facts independently established by the reporting.

What Ballinger said in “hi.”
On June 29, 2023, Ballinger posted a video titled “hi.” on her Colleen Vlogs channel. She played ukulele and sang a response that disputed accusations while describing online criticism as a “toxic gossip train.” The song’s format was unusual for a public response, and its framing made the video itself a focus of commentary.
#1 Best Overall
A scholarly analysis of YouTube responses to cancel culture reproduces this sentence from the video: “Even though my team have strongly advised me to not say what I want to say, I recently realized that they never said that I couldn’t sing what I want to say.” The analysis discusses the song as a form of public response; contemporaneous coverage documents the backlash. See the scholarly analysis, The Washington Post’s explainer, and ABC News Australia’s explainer.
Why the response became part of the story
The video did more than deny accusations: it cast criticism as gossip and delivered that argument in a song. That choice shaped the reaction, with the response itself drawing scrutiny alongside the former fans’ accounts. The Washington Post reported that a representative for Ballinger said she did not attempt to monetize this video. That is an attributed statement about this upload, not a general claim about her other content.

What later coverage does—and does not—show
An Apple Podcasts listing advertises an RKH Media Documentaries episode about Ballinger, the allegations, and the “Toxic Gossip Train” response, dated June 22, 2026: the episode listing. It establishes that at least one retrospective was published. A listing alone does not verify the episode’s account or show that public interest has remained widespread.
The available reporting cited here documents the 2023 allegations and response. It does not establish whether Ballinger made a new statement or whether material legal or factual developments followed that coverage, so the existence of a later retrospective should not be read as evidence of either.
