The count is based on Martin’s stated limit of 12 “proper” studio albums. The Irish Times reported that he made the statement in a Dublin interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1 on 1 October 2024. It identified Moon Music, released that week, as album ten. Coldplay’s official music catalogue lists Moon Music as released on 4 October 2024.
How many albums does Coldplay have left?
Under Martin’s stated plan, two studio albums remain after Moon Music. The band’s catalogue dates the preceding album, Music of the Spheres, to 15 October 2021, and Moon Music to 4 October 2024 (Coldplay’s official catalogue). These dates establish the order of those releases, but they do not indicate when the next album will arrive.

Is the 12-album plan definite?
Martin presented the limit as a serious intention. The Irish Times quoted him saying, “We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real – promise.” He also explained that a fixed endpoint helps maintain quality control: “for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great.”
But the endpoint is not beyond question. In a later interview reported by NME, bassist Guy Berryman said Martin would never stop writing and that he took the 12-album plan “with a little bit of a pinch of salt.” That comment qualifies how certain the endpoint may be; it does not establish that Coldplay has formally abandoned the plan.
Would Coldplay stop making music after album 12?
Martin’s stated limit concerns the band’s “proper” studio albums, not every possible form of future music or activity. He has suggested that creative work could continue in another form, such as a side project or a compilation of unfinished material. The plan therefore should not be read as proof that Coldplay will stop writing, performing, or releasing any music after its 12th studio album.

That speculation does not confirm album 11, the proposed musical, or a release date. Coldplay has not established those details in the sources cited here.
