The “Miyagi-Do versus the world” trailer promoted Cobra Kai season 6, part 2—not a new season. Released in October 2024, it previewed the show’s shift from the Valley to the international Sekai Taikai in Barcelona. Part 2 premiered November 15, 2024; the series has since concluded.
Which Cobra Kai trailer is this?
Entertainment Weekly’s October 23, 2024 trailer coverage, republished by Yahoo, framed the new footage as Miyagi-Do against the world. The report said the trailer offered the first look at season 6’s karate action at the Sekai Taikai and gave November 15, 2024, as part 2’s premiere date. Netflix’s own October 17 preview had already introduced the Barcelona tournament setting.
This was a preview of the second installment of the show’s sixth and final season. Netflix released season 6 in three parts; it is not an announcement of a seventh season.
Why does the tournament change the story?
The Sekai Taikai takes the competition beyond the local All Valley tournament. In Barcelona, Miyagi-Do’s students face elite fighters from around the world at an event portrayed as a long-running international championship. Netflix’s account describes 16 competing dojos, each with its own country-associated gi and logo, as well as musical themes for the teams. The number and national identities are details of the series’ fictional tournament, not real-world karate statistics.

| All Valley | Sekai Taikai |
|---|---|
| A local competition in the familiar Valley setting | An international tournament staged in Barcelona |
| The setting the characters know | A field of 16 dojos representing different countries in the story |
| Competition among local rivals | Miyagi-Do contending with elite fighters from around the world |
The contrast is part of the story’s premise: Miyagi-Do arrives as the unfamiliar “new kids on the block” at a tournament that has been running for decades.
What happened before part 2?
Part 1 ended with Tory joining Cobra Kai, now led by Kreese and Kim Da-Eun, after a personal loss. That decision leaves Miyagi-Do’s students reacting to a major break within their circle just as they try to orient themselves in the much larger tournament.

Who are the new tournament figures?
Netflix’s preview named three additions tied to the international competition: Sensei Wolf, played by Lewis Tan; Axel Kovacevic, played by Patrick Luwis; and Zara Malik, played by Rayna Vallandingham. Their presence signals that Miyagi-Do’s opponents are no longer limited to the familiar local dojos.
What did the creators say about the shift?
In Netflix Tudum’s October 17, 2024 preview, co-creator Hayden Schlossberg described the change in setting: “The first thing that you’re going to notice is we’re not in the Valley anymore.”

Co-creator Jon Hurwitz connected Tory’s decision to the team’s challenge at the tournament: “We left off with the big surprise that Tory has joined Cobra Kai, so we’re in the aftermath of that with everyone reacting to what just happened, while also trying to get their footing –– as the new kids on the block –– of this giant international tournament that has been going on for decades. They have no idea what’s in store for them.”
