During a live CNN report from Tel Aviv on October 1, 2024, correspondent Jim Sciutto said objects were coming down nearby and moved off the roof with his crew. The broadcast captured the urgent moment, but did not identify a particular missile as having landed beside him: Sciutto said the falling objects could have been missiles, fragments from interceptions or interceptor missiles.
What happened during the live report?
Sciutto was reporting from Tel Aviv during Iran’s missile attack on Israel. He described interceptions and impacts visible from his position. As the crew prepared to leave the roof, he told the anchors, “OK, guys, we got to get off the roof. Things are coming down right next to us here.” CNN anchor Dana Bash responded, “Jim, please take cover.”
The transcript records the crew moving indoors after Sciutto reported nearby impacts and falling material. Later, he said the sirens had ended and that an announcement had said people could return safely. That was an update relayed during the broadcast at that moment, not current safety guidance.
Was the falling object identified as a missile?
No. Sciutto said the team could not determine exactly what was coming down. He described several possibilities: missiles, fragments from intercepted missiles, or interceptor missiles. The transcript supports that CNN’s crew reported nearby impacts and falling objects; it does not independently establish the identity of an object or verify that an intact missile struck beside Sciutto.
