For a prerecorded gameplay replay or playlist that should loop on YouTube around the clock, a managed cloud loop is usually the simpler operating model; for custom OBS/FFmpeg workflows or live gameplay encoding, a self-managed VPS offers more control but requires you to configure and maintain it. What YouTube settings matter?
For an encoder-based stream, choose resolution, frame rate and codec before setting bitrate. YouTube’s official guidance makes bitrate codec-specific; these recommended ingest values are not one-size-fits-all guarantees of stream quality. YouTube says Live Control Room can automatically detect encoder settings under its default behavior, and it transcodes the incoming stream for viewers. YouTube’s live encoder settings and recommendations are the reference for the current setup.

Use YouTube’s recommended RTMPS ingest protocol where your encoder supports it. Match the bitrate to the selected resolution, frame rate and codec rather than carrying over a value from a different setup. For a prerecorded loop handled by a managed service, check that service’s supported input requirements instead of assuming encoder settings apply in the same way.

How to evaluate a VPS for an Indian channel
Check the actual workload, not just the region name
AWS Lightsail offers a Mumbai region. Its pricing page lists an entry Linux/Unix IPv4 bundle at $5 per month with 0.5 GB RAM, 2 vCPUs, 20 GB SSD and 1 TB of displayed transfer. AWS states that Mumbai-region bundles include half the displayed transfer allowance. Those are plan specifications, not evidence that the smallest instance can encode your chosen game footage continuously. AWS Lightsail pricing
Google Cloud lists Mumbai (asia-south1) and Delhi (asia-south2) among regions for relevant general-purpose VM families. This establishes regional availability, not a measured route to YouTube ingest or enough compute for a particular encoder workload. Google Cloud VM pricing

Include transfer in the cost calculation
A 24/7 stream sends substantial data over a month. Estimate transfer from the bitrate you intend to send, then check how the provider counts inbound and outbound traffic and what allowance applies to the specific region and bundle. Do not treat an advertised transfer allowance as unlimited.
AWS says both inbound and outbound transfer count against the included Lightsail allowance and documents a Mumbai excess outbound transfer charge of $0.13 per GB. For scale, a steady 12 Mbps stream sends about 1.35 decimal GB per hour before protocol overhead, or roughly 972 GB over 30 days if that rate is sustained without interruption. A 17 Mbps stream sends about 1.91 GB per hour, or roughly 1,377 GB over 30 days. These are arithmetic estimates from the stated bitrate and a 30-day month, not provider billing totals; real counted usage and charges depend on the provider’s traffic rules and your stream’s actual bitrate.
Compare the real operating burden
- Confirm the VM’s plan, region-specific transfer allowance and overage terms before starting a continuous stream.
- Test the actual encoding process at the resolution, frame rate and bitrate you plan to use. A published CPU and RAM specification is not a benchmark.
- Measure stream health from the network and location you will rely on. A region close to you is not proof of a good route to YouTube ingest.
- Plan for process restarts, machine maintenance, encoder updates and alerts; a VPS gives you the tools, but not automatic ownership of those tasks.
Set up and validate an encoder workflow
- Choose the stream target. Decide on resolution and frame rate based on the source recording or live capture and the quality you can send steadily.
- Set codec and bitrate. Use YouTube’s codec-specific recommendations above, or consult its current encoder-settings page for other targets and conditions. Do not set a 1080p60 H.264 stream to the AV1/H.265 recommendation by mistake.
- Configure the YouTube destination. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, create or select the stream, and copy its stream key into OBS, FFmpeg or your chosen encoder. Treat the key like a password; anyone who gets it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Use RTMPS when supported. Select YouTube’s RTMPS ingest endpoint in the encoder and apply the key without exposing it in public scripts, screenshots or logs.
- Test with representative material. YouTube recommends testing with audio and motion similar to the intended stream, then monitoring stream health and reviewing messages during the event. YouTube Help: live encoder settings
- Keep the VPS process supervised. Configure your encoder to start after a reboot and decide how you will detect a stopped process, network interruption or YouTube disconnect. Test the recovery path rather than assuming it works.
Copyright and channel-policy checks for replay streams
Having a recording does not by itself establish that you have the rights to stream every element in it. Gameplay footage can contain licensed soundtrack music, cutscenes, other creators’ clips, voice chat or overlays. Review the permissions that apply to the game, music and other material before running a continuous replay. YouTube’s copyright and monetization policies can also affect whether a channel or stream is permitted or eligible for monetization; a technical connection does not override those rules.

Do not treat a long-running loop, a playlist, or a stream key as a way around copyright enforcement or channel rules. Keep records of relevant licenses and use the copyright safety checklist as a preflight aid; it cannot grant rights or guarantee a platform outcome.
