Spoilers for the Season 3 finale of Claim to Fame. Adam Christoferson won the August 28, 2024 finale, but he told interviewers that a head injury during the final challenge nearly made him think his chance to finish the game was over. After being cleared to continue, he returned, made the final guesses correctly and revealed that his famous relative is his uncle, singer Michael Bolton.
How Adam’s finale turned from injury scare to victory
The final three were Adam, Mackenzie Adkins and Hud Mellencamp. During an obstacle-course-style challenge, Adam hit his head on a metal pole and began bleeding. He later told Parade that he needed stitches and went to the emergency room after the competition. In his recollection, the possibility that he might have to leave the game overwhelmed him; once he was cleared to continue, he went back to the challenge knowing that the outcome could still be his to decide. Adam’s account adds the emotional detail behind what viewers saw in the finale. He told TV Insider that he cried after hitting his head and felt as if he had been in a trance. He said the win fully registered only when the fireworks went off. “I experienced a real live Hollywood experience,” he said. TV Insider’s interview with Adam
Adam’s final guesses—and his own reveal
After winning the challenge, Adam chose to make the final guesses himself. He correctly identified Mackenzie’s father as country singer Trace Adkins and Hud’s father as John Mellencamp. Then he revealed that he is Michael Bolton’s nephew. The season’s reported grand prize was $100,000. PEOPLE’s interview, syndicated by AOL · Parade

Why Michael Bolton’s message moved him
Adam said Bolton had encouraged him before the competition: “You’re already a star. Don’t even worry about it.” During the finale, a message from his uncle became especially emotional for Adam. The PEOPLE interview syndicated by AOL noted that Bolton had undergone surgery earlier in 2024 to remove a brain tumor; that detail was part of the interview’s context for the message, not a medical account of Adam’s experience. In his August 28, 2024 interview with Parade, Adam said he had already bought his father a truck and expected the rest of the prize to go to taxes. He described helping his father as his reason for competing: “I didn’t come for the money. I came literally to get enough money to get my father a truck because he deserves a new truck.” That is Adam’s account of his plans at the time, not an independently verified accounting of how he ultimately spent the award.
