Cineplex confirmed a nationwide average ticket-price increase of $0.25 in late 2024, with the amount varying by ticket type. That is the confirmed general-admission increase covered here—not evidence of a new nationwide base-ticket hike in 2026. The Toronto-area prices reported at the time were local examples, not a Canadian price list.
What Cineplex confirmed about the increase
On December 2, 2024, MobileSyrup reported that Cineplex had raised ticket prices across Canada. Daily Hive quoted a Cineplex spokesperson saying prices had recently increased by an average of $0.25, depending on ticket type, across the country. The spokesperson attributed the change to higher operating costs, including leasing, utilities and labour; that is Cineplex’s explanation, not a published breakdown of the increase. MobileSyrup’s report and Daily Hive’s report both date the news to December 2, 2024.

The $16 figure was specific to the Toronto area
MobileSyrup cited $16 for standard admission in the Toronto area and compared it with a usual prior general-admission price of $14.25. The article separately noted a $1 premium associated with the popular film Dune: Part Two. These are historical, local examples—not a uniform rate for Cineplex theatres across Canada, and not a current price quote.
Was there another nationwide increase in 2026?
The confirmed Cineplex price change in the available 2026 company notice is for CineClub and member-priced tickets, not ordinary general admission. Effective July 15, 2026, monthly CineClub membership rises from $9.99 to $10.99, and annual membership from $109.89 to $120.89. Everyday CineClub member-priced tickets also rise from $9.99 to $10.99. Cineplex’s Q1 2026 report records box-office revenue per patron of $12.94, compared with $12.14 in Q1 2025, a 6.6% increase. That measure is not the price of a standard ticket: it can reflect the mix of tickets and other factors, so it does not establish a separate 2026 nationwide general-admission increase. No named statistic or new company confirmation in the cited material establishes such a 2026 base-ticket hike. Cineplex’s Q1 2026 report also says the Federal Court of Appeal upheld the booking-fee decision on January 23, 2026, and that Cineplex sought leave to appeal to the Supreme Court on March 23; payment was stayed pending that application.
Why two Cineplex ticket totals can differ
There is no single current national ticket price established here. Check the details of the specific showing and checkout rather than treating a reported local price or an expired offer as a current standard rate.

For example, Cineplex advertised a Scene+ offer for March 13–16, 2026, with $9.99 general admission in theatres. The promotion page also listed online Scene+ tickets at $10.99 before tax, including a $1 online booking fee, with extra charges for premium formats. Those were limited-time promotional prices, not current general prices. The promotion details specify the offer period.
Booking fees are separate from admission prices
The Competition Bureau’s case concerned how Cineplex presented a mandatory online booking fee, not the 2024 base-ticket increase. In September 2024, the Competition Tribunal found that presenting the fee separately constituted drip pricing and ordered a penalty of more than $38.9 million plus costs. That was an order, not confirmation that Cineplex had paid that amount. The Bureau’s announcement describes the decision and the Tribunal’s finding. Cineplex’s Q1 2026 report says the appeal was upheld in January 2026 and that the company applied for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court in March, with payment stayed pending that application.

Cineplex’s official deals page lists offers including Big Deal Tuesdays, with an additional 10% Tuesday ticket-price saving for Scene+ members, and a Virgin Plus 2-for-1 offer stated to run through December 13, 2026. Cineplex says offers are subject to change without notice, so verify eligibility, dates and restrictions on the offer page before buying.
