In a January 2024 preview of the A&E special Casey Anthony’s Parents: The Lie Detector Test, Cindy Anthony said she believed her daughter knew what happened to Caylee. As she discussed that belief, Cindy described herself as having a panic attack and left the interview. The televised moment records her reaction; it does not establish how Caylee died.
What Cindy Anthony said in the interview
Entertainment Tonight’s preview centered on a question about whether Cindy believed Casey knew what had happened to Caylee. Cindy answered, “Yes, I believe [Casey knows what happened], 100 percent. I kept hoping upon hope that she would confess.”
She then spoke about hearing Casey tell different stories and became visibly distressed. ET’s transcript records Cindy saying, “I’m having a hard time. I’m having a panic attack. I’m sorry. I’m gonna take my anxiety pills. I’m sorry,” followed by, “I’m starting to lose it. I’m starting to faint. I’m starting to pass out.” George Anthony went to comfort her, and Cindy left the interview.
“Panic attack” is Cindy’s own description in the clip, not a diagnosis independently established by a clinician. ET’s January 2, 2024 report and clip present the moment as part of a television interview.

How the clip fits the case
Caylee’s disappearance was reported by Cindy in 2008, and Caylee’s remains were later found near the family’s home. Casey Anthony was charged with first-degree murder. At her 2011 trial, the defense argued that Caylee had accidentally drowned in the family pool and accused George Anthony of disposing of her remains. Those were arguments made by the defense, not findings established by the verdict.
Casey was found not guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter of a child. She was convicted of misdemeanor providing false information to law enforcement. The verdict did not determine the precise cause or circumstances of Caylee’s death.

The 2024 interview was framed around the grandparents’ response to claims Casey had made publicly. A 2022 TIME recap of Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies describes competing accounts and Casey’s allegations against George, which he denied. That recap is context about the documentary and its claims, not a court finding. Likewise, an ABC News report from 2012 covered statements Casey made to psychiatrists and a denial from George’s attorney; it does not independently establish what happened to Caylee.
What the moment can—and cannot—show
The interview shows Cindy expressing her belief that Casey knew what happened and describing acute distress while discussing the subject. It is one emotional moment in a television preview, not new evidence about Caylee’s death, proof of either family member’s account, or an independent medical evaluation. An earlier ABC News report on Cindy’s 2011 jailhouse calls documents a separate period of distress during the search for Caylee; it should not be conflated with the 2024 interview.
