Steve is a Cillian Murphy-led Netflix film about a headmaster at a school for troubled young people in mid-1990s England. T3 described its trailer as intense and emotional; “scarring” is a headline reaction, not an official genre label or content warning.
What is Cillian Murphy’s film Steve about?
T3’s Max Freeman-Mills describes Murphy as Steve, a struggling headmaster facing one pivotal day at a school for troubled youths in mid-1990s England. That premise places the story around the school and its pressures; the cited article does not provide a fuller plot account.
The description of the trailer as “intense and emotional” is T3’s impression, not a confirmed account of every scene. It should not be treated as an official content advisory. T3’s article was last updated August 21, 2025: T3’s coverage of Steve.
Is Steve based on a book?
Yes. T3 identifies Max Porter’s novel Shy as the source material. The film’s title is Steve, not the title of the novel. The article does not detail how the adaptation changes or retains the book’s story.
