Christina Haack said filming HGTV’s The Flip Off became easier after her ex-husband Josh Hall left the competition. Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show on January 28, 2025, she described the change in her own experience: “It’s so much easier without somebody else bothering me. I mean, I don’t have to ask approval from anyone, no one’s weighing me down.”
Why did Haack say filming was easier?
Haack’s explanation was about the working dynamic she experienced while making the show: she said she no longer had to ask someone else’s approval or felt weighed down. In earlier comments, she described filming with Hall as “very hard” and said he would get upset with her over decisions she made while producing a television show. TV Insider quoted her saying, “He didn’t get it. He’d always get upset with me, like, ‘Oh, my gosh, you did this’ or ‘You did that.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m making a TV show.’”

Haack also discussed Hall’s departure on the Jeff Lewis Has Issues podcast, saying, “The show must go on. What changed after Josh Hall left?
The Flip Off was conceived as a house-flipping contest between Haack and Hall on one side and Tarek El Moussa and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, on the other. TV Insider reported that Hall exited after the first episode following his split from Haack. The series premiered on January 29, 2025, according to the outlet.

After Hall left, Haack continued with friends she had worked with behind the scenes; her second ex-husband, Ant Anstead, also appeared. The Associated Press reported that Haack, Tarek, and Heather were co-producers. The show’s format asks each side to scout a house to buy, renovate it one room at a time, and sell it. Haack and Tarek El Moussa had previously worked together on HGTV’s Flip or Flop, which debuted in 2013 and ran for 10 seasons, ending in 2022, according to the Associated Press. Haack told the AP that she and Tarek could recover quickly from arguments and return to making scenes for the cameras. Heather, reflecting on joining that established partnership, described the earlier filming environment as chaotic. Their comments offer context for the show’s on-camera relationships, but do not change the fact that Haack’s remarks about Hall reflect her own account.
