Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky met in early 2010, married that year, and went on to raise three children. Their public story includes a move to Byron Bay, candid comments about the effort marriage takes, and a shared appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder. Here is the timeline, separating reported milestones from what the couple have said about their private life.
How did Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky meet?
Harper’s Bazaar reports that Hemsworth and Pataky were introduced in early 2010 by his talent agent, William Ward. Recalling the meeting later, Hemsworth said there was “no lightbulb moment”; they “just made sense” from the start. Those details come from retrospective reporting, not a contemporaneous account. Harper’s Bazaar’s timeline dates their first public red-carpet appearance to September 2010, at the opening gala for the Resnick Pavilion at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
When did they get married, and how many children do they have?
Hemsworth and Pataky married in 2010. Reports establish the year, but the sources cited here do not verify an exact wedding date or location. They have three children: daughter India Rose, born in 2012, and twin sons Tristan and Sasha.
2012: India Rose is born
ELLE’s relationship timeline and ABC News’s 2016 report place the birth of their first child, India Rose, in 2012. ELLE’s timeline recounts the family milestones.

Why did the family move to Byron Bay?
ELLE reports that the family moved to Australia in 2015, settling in Byron Bay after the demands of Hemsworth’s Marvel work. Hemsworth described wanting a lower-key, more normal life for his family. Reflecting on the pressures of living around the entertainment industry, he said, “When you’re suffocated by the work, every conversation that you have and every billboard you’re seeing has to do with a movie or the industry, you lose perspective.” He called life outside the industry refreshing for his wife and children. That is his explanation of the move, rather than proof that it was the only factor.

Hemsworth joked on Instagram that he was “looking for a new wife” because of “misleading outlets.” Pataky replied, “Ahora y siempre! Always and forever!!” The documented event is their response to the rumor; the tabloid claim itself should not be treated as fact. ABC News’s contemporaneous report covered the exchange.
When did they work together on a film?
Pataky appeared in the 2022 film Thor: Love and Thunder, and the couple’s children had brief roles in it, according to Harper’s Bazaar and ELLE. It is a shared professional milestone, though that does not by itself establish that the film was a joint career project.
