Chris Hansen announced an investigation into child exploitation on Roblox and was reported to have contacted law enforcement and Schlep, a Roblox-focused YouTuber banned by the platform after it characterized his predator-catching activity as vigilantism. The dispute is about more than whether private sting operations can expose suspected offenders: it is also about whether those operations can put users at risk or interfere with platform and police investigations.
What is Chris Hansen investigating on Roblox?
On August 15, 2025, Hansen announced that he was investigating child exploitation on Roblox and had contacted law enforcement and Schlep, according to Dexerto. ABC News later reported that Hansen had teamed up with Schlep. These reports establish an announced investigation and reported collaboration at that time; they do not establish whether a documentary was subsequently released or where it can be watched.
Who is Schlep, and why was he banned?
Schlep is a Roblox-focused YouTuber who used accounts posing as underage players to engage adult Roblox users, according to ABC News. He said his efforts had led to at least six arrests. ABC News also reported that Arkansas police had made no public statements about the stings, so the arrest figure is Schlep’s reported claim, not an independently confirmed count.
Roblox issued Schlep a cease-and-desist notice. The company objected to what it called “simulated child endangerment” and to taking conversations off the platform, ABC News reported. Roblox said: “Actions taken by vigilante groups increase the risk of more users being exposed to bad actors and can delay enforcement efforts by both Roblox and law enforcement.”

Why does Roblox call predator-catching vigilantism?
Roblox’s objection, as described in the reporting, is that independent decoy operations may reproduce risky interactions and move conversations beyond the platform’s ability to monitor or respond. In a February 2026 report, The Post quoted Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman explaining the company’s rationale: “Similar to actual predators, they often impersonated minors, actively approached other users, then tried to lead them to other platforms to have sexually explicit conversations (which is against our Terms of Use).” That is Roblox’s account of the conduct and its rules, not an independent finding about Schlep’s actions.
Roblox’s stated concern is also about consequences beyond a single investigation: the company argued that vigilante activity could expose other users to bad actors or delay enforcement by Roblox and law enforcement. The available reporting does not establish whether that occurred in Schlep’s case.

What does Schlep say about working with Roblox?
Schlep disputed Roblox’s characterization and said he worked with authorities. ABC News quoted him saying he had sought a direct reporting channel with the company: “I’ve made it clear since the beginning,” he said. “After one of my first catches, I was like, ‘Hey, I want to work with you. I was a victim of the platform. This is why I do it. And I would love some form of communication where I can just directly report these people to you, because their reports just don’t work’.” His comments describe his own account of trying to cooperate and his dissatisfaction with the platform’s reporting process.

| Approach | What it involves, as described in reporting | Stated concern or rationale |
|---|---|---|
| Roblox’s platform enforcement | Roblox says users should use its enforcement and reporting processes; its stated objection includes impersonating minors and moving conversations off-platform. (ABC News; The Post, February 2026) | Roblox argues independent stings can expose users to bad actors and delay platform or law-enforcement work. (ABC News) |
| Schlep’s independent decoy investigations | Schlep used accounts posing as underage players and said he sought a direct channel to report people to Roblox. (ABC News) | Schlep says his efforts were intended to catch suspected predators and that platform reports did not work for him. (ABC News) |
The reports document competing accounts, not a settled assessment of which approach is more effective. They do not establish a reliable statistic about the prevalence of predators on Roblox or the effectiveness of Schlep’s activity.
